  2. How's stat?!published at 14:43 British Summer Time 12 June

    Andy Zaltzman
    Test Match Special statistician

Australia lost their last five wickets for 20 runs and South Africa lost their last five for 12 runs.

In the entire history of Test cricket there have only been seven matches where two teams in the first innings have lost their last five for less than the combined 32 runs these two teams have.

Not a great match for tail-end batting, so far.

  3. Aus 15-0published at 5 overs

A sharp intake of breath as an edge from Marnus Labuschagne falls just short of the wicketkeeper. Kagiso Rabada is probing.

  4. Aus 14-0published at 4.1 overs

Well, this innings has just burst into life.

South Africa and Kagiso Rabada go up with a big appeal for lbw against Marnus Labuschagne. The umpire says no.

In the meantime, Australia run two and Labuschagne narrowly avoids being run out. It's a good dive to get into his ground.

    South Africa don't review. Phew.

It seems the “proper Test cricket” crowd from yesterday have gone rather quiet.

There is a lot of opportunity for Cameron Green, like South Africa's Wiaan Mulder who is a makeshift number three, so lots of opportunity to make it their own.

  7. Aus 12-0published at 4 overs

These no-balls must be getting frustrating for South Africa. 10 yesterday and already two today.

  8. Aus 10-0published at 3.2 overs

Usman Khawaja has a run! No duck today!

This could be a bit of a vigil here with these two against accurate bowling.

  10. Aus 9-0published at 3 overs

Daniel, rest assured that was not a sympathy post. I chortled quietly to myself. (Also, happy birthday!)

A Kagiso Rabada no-ball is the only addition to the scoreboard.

When South Africa looked at the weather forecast this morning, did it stay a storm was Cummins?

Daniel, London (today is my 30th birthday so even if you think this joke is terrible I think that warrants a post on the website!)

Everyone was talking about Starc and Hazlewood and Cummins flew under the radar a bit.

South Africa have three slips in place.

Just a leg bye from Marco Jansen's first over.

Sadly I expect Australia to make 350+ and SA to crumble to a heavy defeat.

  16. Aus 7-0published at 1 over

Kagiso Rabada takes the new ball but Marnus Labuschagne is quickly into his flow.

He scores seven runs off the first over, including a clipped boundary for four. Momentum is with Australia.

Well Douglas (and others), here's a stat which will boost your hopes of a day three (and maybe four).

Ffion will be back here after tea and by my calculations, she's only seen two wickets fall. There's less than an hour left for me to cause more wicket chaos.

Pat Cummins celebrates taking six wicketsImage source, PA Media

Australia captain Pat Cummins speaking to Sky Sports after taking six wickets: "It's great. I've got some family here as well which is always nice, but more importantly we walked in and they were batting pretty well, so pretty happy to have a decent lead in this first innings."

On achieving 300 Test wickets: "It's way more than I could've asked for. For any fast bowler 300 is a big number, it means you've battled a few injuries and niggles and got through it. [I'm] pretty happy.

"When the ball got a little bit softer there wasn't too much in it but it still feels like the odd ball is nipping, so it feels like if you bowl well its tough to score runs."
