  1. Bad light stops play - Eng 339-6published at 76.2 overs

England need 35 runs to win

The light meter is brought out and the umpires are pulling the players from the field.

India won't be happy about that. The momentum is well and truly in their favour.

England need 35 runs to win. India need four wickets.

  2. Not outpublished at 76.2 overs

No conclusive evidence says third umpire Rod Tucker. He thinks the ball hasn't hit the bat.

    Jamie Overton survives. Breathe again.

I think quite clearly it hits the bottom of his bat and then it bounces.

Rod Tucker is double, double checking and confusing himself, as well.

    I have no idea.

  5. Umpire reviewpublished at 76.2 overs

India go up for a caught behind against Jamie Overton. It isn't given out.

The umpires send it upstairs to check on a possible bump ball.

  6. Eng 339-6published at 76 overs

Maiden for Mohammed Siraj, who is getting the ball to nip and skid and do all sorts.

    Remember, England's target is 374.

Such a positive player, Jamie Smith.

In his England career, so far, he has been decisive and committed. That's not a committed shot.

Mohammed Siraj has been relentless and he just keeps bashing the length. For whatever reason, this ball has moved just after tea.

  8. Eng 339-6published at 75.3 overs

England need 35 runs to win

Ohhhhh. Jamie Smith wafts and nearly, oh so nearly, gets an edge on a wide delivery from Mohammed Siraj.

And Siraj beats Smith's edge again! Poor old Siraj. He can't catch a break.

  9. Eng 339-6published at 75 overs

    England need 35 runs

Jamie Smith takes a single. Cheers ring around The Oval. Jamie Overton twice pulls out of the final ball of the over.

India's fielders, who were looking a bit morose after tea, are up again.

India have not fought back. It's been brainless cricket from England that's opened the door.

    Less of that, Jamie O.

He comes halfway down from the non-striker's end before being sent back by Jamie Smith. The throw comes in, but he's safe.

Jamie Overton can bat, he is competitive and he will like the situation.

Why do people get wound up by Siraj? He wears his heart on his sleeve, charges in again and again and again, gets spiky when the pressure is on and then has a laugh and a joke when it unwinds. Proper Test cricketer.

England need 36 runs to win

Mohammed Siraj spent the previous over revving up the crowd. He was clapping, shouting, and waving his arms to conduct the cheers.

And he follows it up by bowling his 25th over of the innings. Just the one leg bye.

On the England balcony, injured captain Ben Stokes (not playing in this match, remember) is hugging himself.

    I can't cope! What a series! What a match!

Spare a thought for these umpires. Amazing split-second decision making under immense pressure.

    Arvind, Bromley

Are England about to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!

Extraordinary. Joe Root, a little waft outside the off stump. Root goes for 105 and he cannot believe it. This is now game on!

The crowd has gone up a notch. It has been England all day and now India's supporters are making their voices heard.

Prasidh Krishna strikes again! Edging through to the keeper. Joe Root is out for a brilliant 105 (152). He walks off shaking his head and takes the stairs very slowly.

What is going on?!? 37 runs for an England win. Four wickets (or maybe three, depending on Chris Woakes) for an India win.

Red, red, GREEN - it's missing Joe Root's leg stump.

  20. India reviewpublished at 72.2 overs

Prasidh Krishna this time gets one to nip back into Joe Root's pads.

Ahsan Raza doesn't give it. This time, Shubman Gill goes upstairs.
