There has been decidedly little threat from England in the past few overs.

Josh Tongue tries to change that and does crank it up to 90mph to bring a rare mishit from Shubman Gill.

Nothing to overly trouble this India pair, though, and the partnership is up to 53.

Who does Ben Stokes turn to next? Time for a bit of Shoaib Bashir maybe?

England haven't bowled badly, but this is just a good pitch. They made a decision on what has happened here over the past few years, rather than what has happened recently in terms of the weather.

Bowling first has given India an opportunity to get into the series.

The problem for England here is that not only are India looking comfortable, there is no one tying up an end, drying the scoring up - all 4 bowlers are going at or near 4 per over.

    Jaiswal 51, Gill 39

Four more to Shubman Gill, driven just past Ben Stokes at mid-off and the ball races to the boundary cushion.

It was full and slightly wide but, given a fielder had just been put in catching at short cover, that probably wasn't far off what Chris Woakes was going for.

However, Shubman Gill was in complete control of the shot.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has played that 50 really nicely. He is a wonderful young player and in his mind, this is not enough. He'll be eyeing three figures if he can.

Yashasvi Jaiswal clips the ball into the leg side for a single... and that's his half-century.

The odd slightly nervy moment but it's largely been a lovely knock. The left-hander reaches the milestone from 96 balls.

He won't consider his job to be anywhere near done yet, though.

Beautiful, gorgeous, sublime. Gill drove it effortlessly down on the on-side of the pitch, straight to the boundary for four. Gorgeous shot.

  10. Ind 132-2published at 34 overs

Another fabulous shot from Shubman Gill.

Just overpitched from Chris Woakes and Gill drives it sumptuously back down the ground for four.

To quickly state the obvious: the India captain is such an elegant player.

India have played the ball really late and under their noses today. They have left it as late as possible, let it get to them and played some lovely drives.

It is a big innings for Gill, the new captain and the opportunity to really set the tone.

Are you lathering on the suncream like England's Jacob Bethell and Ollie Pope?

Pretty perfect day to go and watch the cricket, right?

Plenty of England and India bucket hats floating about the place at Headingley... as well as the odd sombrero. Temperatures here could get up to 30 degrees today. There's even an amber weather warning for heat.

"It is so hot," one fan tells BBC Newsbeat as she buys a bucket hat, "might be a bit too hot".

"Just got to hope and pray. I'm not very good at staying not burnt," Charlie says as he clutches his sunnies and suncream.

"Get a few drinks. Get some water. That's all I need," his mate Nirmay says.

While Kartik, who's travelled from Bhopal in central India for the game, his first time in the UK (It's the best moment of his life so far, he says), laughs and tells us the weather is perfect - especially for the Indian team who'll be used to it.

The official advice from health authorities?

"Cover up with suitable clothing, such as an appropriate hat and sunglasses, seek shade and apply sunscreen regularly."

As for the cricketers - it's zinc oxide sun cream you may see on their faces.

  13. Ind 128-2published at 32 overs

Josh Tongue returns and four come from the over, three of them to Yashasvi Jaiswal, who moves to 49.

A single last ball keeps Shubman Gill on strike for the start of Chris Woakes' next over, though.

    Gorgeous shot from Shubman Gill.

After edging Chris Woakes just wide of the slips for a boundary to start the over, this is a far more convincing shot.

The India skipper almost walks at the bowler and drives beautifully through mid-off before clipping through mid-wicket for four more next ball.

Gill is suddenly up to 26 from as many balls.

England have tried really hard to get the ball full, knowing Headingley is traditionally the ground where the fullest length is required.

They've missed occasionally. India have driven a lot and England have even bowled the off full toss.

Still, how many times have we complained in the past about England bowling too short, a 'pretty length', with the new ball? It's tough to criticise for being too full.

  18. Ind 112-2published at 31 overs

Brilliant delivery from Brydon Carse. A fast, in-swinging yorker that Jaiswal has to dig out at the last moment.

But was it boot first? Well, it was a no-ball so it matters not.

Oh dear. It was boot first and it would have been plumb had Carse not overstepped. England will hope that doesn't prove costly.
