Just looking at Brydon Carse's body language, he looks quite tired. He's had to work hard in his debut Test.

Is Peter saying he's in a powercut in Durham or in a place called Powercut?

Dare I say, sub 500 looks like a good bowling effort from England. Proper Test match and proper Test score. Let's hope the batters can be patient when they get in!

    Oooo...

More turn for Shoaib Bashir to beat the edge of Shaheen Afridi. There are just a couple of signs of this pitch starting to get more difficult to bat on.

As I write that, Salman Ali Agha drives Bashir for four.

Shoaib Bashir had to wait until his 25th over to pick his first wicket. Only once has an England bowler needed to bowl more wicketless balls at the start of an innings in their last 17 Tests since the start of the 2023 summer - Tom Hartley who took a wicket in his 32nd over in Dharamshala.

The all-time England record for most balls before taking a wicket in a Test innings is 441 balls needed by Hedley Verity in Durban in March 1939.

  6. Pak 464-8published at 129 overs

    Salman 41, Shaheen 0

I said Shaheen likes to give it a biff and he tries to hit his first ball all of the way to Islamabad.

On second look that dismissal was not a great shot from Aamir Jamal.

England bowlers will want to keep the ball rolling, but that was the sort of wicket that can have their batting unit worried with Pakistan 464-8.

Shaheen Afridi can bash them. He has emerged at number 10 for Pakistan.

England have taken 4-76, starting with the Naseem Shah wicket. On this pitch, with the effort they have had to put in over the past day-and-a-half, that really should be commended.

Umpire's call on the top of the stumps. This marginal call goes in England's favour.

It was back-of-a-length from Brydon Carse but the ball has skidded on to hit Aamir Jamal on the back thigh as he swung across the line.

A worrying sign for them going forward but England won't worry about that for now.

Up goes the finger! Aamir Jamal is hit by one that keeps low from Brydon Carse.

It took a long time for the umpire to give it out...

  13. Pak 460-7published at 128 overs

That suggests slow is the way to go and Bashir loops the final ball of his latest over up to Salman Ali Agha but there is no such sharp turn. That delivery continues to be the outlier which is both bad and good news for England.

    Soham Sarkhel
    CricViz analyst

Shoaib Bashir’s wicket delivery turned 5.7 degrees off the pitch, that is the most turn any spinner has generated in this Test match so far.

It was also a clever change of pace compared to the previous deliveries he bowled to Saud Shakeel in the spell.

Bashir averaged 89.4 kph (55.6 mph) before the dismissal ball, which was easily the slowest delivery of his spell to Shakeel at 82.4 kph (51.2 mph).

I do hope Sir Alastair is following while sheering the sheep.

Brydon Carse gets nothing from the middle of this lifeless pitch as he bangs it in short again.

There's two people in the world who will be looking at the second innings with particular interest - one is a colleague of ours, Sir Alastair Cook, and the other, Joe Root, who is only 70 runs behind and will be looking at the prospect of going past Sir Alastair as England's leading run-scorer in Tests.

  17. Postpublished at 09:48 British Summer Time

Brydon Carse, England's quickest bowler, is back to try and get the wicket of Aamir Jamal.

  18. Pak 453-7published at 126 overs

Aamir Jamal, who scored 82 against Australia in Sydney in his debut series, is immediately off the mark.

How England would love to knock these last few over quickly.

Saud Shakeel had gone absolutely dead at the crease unfortunately. The delivery bounced a little bit as well and it's a great catch from Joe Root because at this stage, you can be a little sleepy at the slips.

It's a classic piece of off-spin bowling from around the wicket to a left-hander. That's a beautiful piece of bowling from Shoaib Bashir!
