Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu: "We are going to bowl first because I am pretty confident about our bowling unit and I think the condition is not good for batters because of the rain in the last two days.

"We are playing on our home soil in front of our home crowd. We want to play our best cricket and finish this tournament on a high. That is the most important thing for us today."

We are finally having the toss at 17:45pm local time in Colombo.

The first ball will be bowled 30 minutes after the toss.

It will be a 34 overs per side game and we will have seven overs of powerplay.

Let's just hope the rain stays away now!

OK, so the toss was scheduled for 17:10 local time in Colombo, which is just about now, with the first ball to be bowled half an hour later for a 38-over-per-side game.

But it has apparently started raining again at the R Premadasa Stadium now, so this wait goes on!

Why are New Zealand and Sri Lanka already out of the running for a place in the knockout stage?

India secured the final spot in the World Cup semi-finals with a 53-run victory (DLS) over the White Ferns in Navi Mumbai on Thursday.

Despite wet weather briefly threatening to frustrate both sides, India comfortably secured the required two points to join Australia, South Africa, and England in the knockout stages, with centuries from Pratika Rawal – whose 122 (134) is the second-highest score of the tournament – and Smriti Mandhana (109 off 95) helping India post 340-3. New Zealand could only make 271-8 in reply.

Although New Zealand and Sri Lanka could join them on six points if they win their final group matches and India lose to Bangladesh, neither side can match India's three wins, which is the first criteria used to separate sides in this tournament.

While we're waiting for the rain to stop, can anyone explain why India have already qualified? If NZ beat England they will be on equal points, and if they score 330 and concede under 100 they will have a better run rate than India. If India lose bigly, NZ won't need such an emphatic win.

The rain has stopped and most of the covers have been taken off as well. That's the best it's looked all morning.

The umpires are wandering around the outfield and there will be parts of the outfield that are wet. The soppers are going around the ground to try and dry things out.

Hopefully, we will get a toss soon.
