  1. Rockets 60-1published at 55 balls left

    Target 112

Liam Livingstone has started his spell nicely, conceding only eight from his first 10 balls, but the Rockets are in complete control. They can afford a few quiet phases.

  2. Not outpublished at 60 balls left

    Rockets 57-1

    Missing leg stump!

Rehan Ahmed ought to thank Joe Root there, who convinced him to review it.

That looks to be missing to me or clipping leg-stump and so umpire's call.

  4. Rockets reviewpublished at 60 balls left

Does Liam Patterson-White have his revenge?

Rehan Ahmed is given out lbw on the field but opts for a review at the last second.

Great use of the feet from Rehan Ahmed. Not many people have tried that shot and succeeded.

    A mighty shot.

  6. Rockets 57-1published at 61 balls left

A skip down the pitch and lofted for four more by Rehan Ahmed!

Ridiculous. That pinged off the bat.

  7. Rockets 53-1published at 63 balls left

    Target 112

Sorry, which surface were the Phoenix batting on?

Rehan Ahmed reverse-sweeps the spinner for four more!

That was not a great five balls from Benny Howell. Phoenix have got to find a way to get some wickets here.

  9. 6 runs

Rockets 49-1published at 65 balls left

    Target 112

    Hello!

Rehan Ahmed brings the flair to juxtapose Root's effortlessness. Far too short from Benny Howell and it's heaved into the stands for six!

  10. Rockets 39-1published at 69 balls left

Joe Root makes batting look so easy.

Birmingham Phoenix's entire innings was like they were in a video game set to the highest difficulty, but he looks like he's cruising in beginner mode.

Benny Howell's first ball is pulled for four.

  11. Rockets 35-1published at 70 balls left

    Target 112

A quieter period of play with the fielders now able to spread to the boundary, but Root and Ahmed look perfectly at ease with ticking the singles off Liam Livingstone.

I love this intensity from Joe Root. He was sprinting for that second run despite the ball going to the boundary.

He almost lapped Rehan Ahmed on that second run; it is good to see that intent pushing the youngsters.

  13. Rockets 31-1published at 75 balls left

    Target 112

    Audacious from Rehan Ahmed.

He shuffles across his stumps and slog-sweeps the spinner ton conclude the powerplay. It doesn't reach the boundary, but it's a shot of real intent and Trent Rockets have started confidently.

Joe Root is always there with contributions at the top of the order. He is someone who, if you want consistency, you have to choose him.

  15. Rockets 27-1published at 78 balls left

    Target 112

Two more boundaries, two more glorious shots from Joe Root.

The first is lofted over mid-on, the second cut off the back foot as Liam Patterson-White drops too short.

    Tricky pitch, you say?

A beautiful shot from Rehan Ahmed. He didn't try to keep it down at all. We have seen a couple of those shots from him and they feel very intentional.

    Classy.

  17. Rockets 19-1published at 80 balls left

    Target 112

    Ha, or not!

Rehan Ahmed drives beautifully over cover for four, followed by a crisp pull shot for the same result.

What an exciting young talent he is.

  18. Rockets 11-1published at 84 balls left

Right on cue, Rehan Ahmed has an almighty swing at Trent Boult. He misses, but somehow Joe Clarke behind the stumps lets the ball through for four byes.

    A gift for the Rockets.

  19. Rockets 7-1published at 85 balls left

    Target 112

It is not the easiest batting surface but that won't bother Joe Root in the slightest.

He is such a good player of spin and will be happy rotate the strike while he gets himself settled in. Rehan Ahmed may need to be a little more disciplined to rein in his attacking instincts, however!

This is a great opportunity for Rehan Ahmed to bat with someone like Joe Root. He is one of the greatest of all-time.
