  1. Phoenix 64-4published at 55 balls

Rehan Ahmed is in all three England squads for their white-ball matches next month. I wonder if England will play him and Adil Rashid in the same XI.

Liam Livingstone remains as Joe Root hurries through five balls.

Birmingham Phoenix have been slow going. Rehan Ahmed showed his class in those 10 balls. As a batter he makes you feel like the walls are closing in.

Birmingham Phoenix batters are averaging just 19.6 runs per dismissal against spin this season, the lowest in the men's Hundred. The Rockets are the second lowest in this regard at 20.4.

And now we're going to get a bit of Joe Root with his spin.

  5. Phoenix 61-4published at 50 balls

Still Rehan Ahmed has figures of two wickets for three runs after his first 10 balls.

    Very, very impressive.

Move along, everyone. Dan Mousley is fine.

  7. Rockets reviewpublished at 48 balls

I think this one is optimistic but David Willey wants another look at an lbw shout that would give Rehan Ahmed a third wicket.

A very bad decison from Jacob Bethell. He had all of the leg-side to play with but instead he doesn't get it past short third.

Bethell has shown his potential in international cricket and needs to not get built up with expectation.

Jacob Bethell hangs his head in frustration and rightly so.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 45 balls

    Bethell c Banton b Ahmed 0 (Phoenix 59-4)

And now Rehan Ahmed gets his former England Under-19 team-mate Jacob Bethell!

It's an ugly dismissal for the England youngster - a reverse sweep hit straight to backward point for a three-ball duck.

Not the final innings Bethell was after this year.

Rehan Ahmed held his line and length. It was the googly that trapped Will Smeed on the inside edge.

You need to be really consistent as a leg-spinner and if you do that you reap the rewards.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 42 balls

    Smeed b Ahmed 23 (Phoenix 59-3)

Rehan Ahmed strikes with his second ball! Trent Rockets' leg-spinner has had a fine tournament and now a googly is chopped on by Will Smeed.

Ahmed looks full of confidence right now.

That was hit with absolute authority.

Liam Livingstone charged down the track but it was not a swipe. He banged it straight and you can see Trent Rockets starting to understand the threat posed by him.

  15. Phoenix 58-2published at 40 balls

    Smeed 23, Livingstone 6

Liam Livingstone absolutely clatters one that has the umpire weaving like he's avoiding a George Forearm right hook at the far end. That was hit with serious muscle.

It looks like Livingstone has apologised at the end of the over.

  16. Phoenix 51-2published at 35 balls

George Linde's figures are good but they're not quite what they were as Smeed edges another to the boundary.

  17. Phoenix 46-2published at 32 balls

George Linde continues, following those five dots with another, but loses his length with his seventh delivery and Will Smeed cuts for four.

  18. Phoenix 42-2published at 30 balls

    That's a lesser-spotted maiden from George Linde.

Liam Livingstone defends his first two.

There was some pressure building which brought that top hit from Joe Clarke. It was taken beautifully in the field.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 28 balls

    Clarke c Holden b Clarke 6 (Phoenix 42-2)

Snaffled at mid-wicket. Spinner George Linde has a wicket with his second delivery as Joe Clarke falls on the slog sweep.
