Summary

  1. Eng 40-0published at 6.1 overs

Oooo. Noman Ali wants to review an lbw shout here but it has been called a no-ball by the TV umpire.

We'll have to see what the ball-tracking would have said had the left-arm spinner not overstepped.

This was my fear of only having one seamer in the attack.

Aamer Jamal has bowled two overs and he's now out of the attack.

Where do Pakistan turn when England are playing the spin well?

  3. Eng 39-0published at 6 overs

    Duckett 21, Crawley 16

Whether because of Aameer Jamal's injury or not, it's already spin from both ends from Pakistan.

Zak Crawley skips towards the bald-headed spinner Sajid Khan and drives him in textbook fashion for the sixth four in this innings already.

    And again from Ben Duckett!

It's the sweep shot once more but he's managed to hit it 40 yards from where the previous one went with a roll of the wrists.

    Good shot from Ben Duckett.

We know England like to play sweep shots, in particular Duckett and Joe Root.

The politics-cricket crossover was not one I was expecting this morning.

Ben Duckett sweeps for four again...

  9. Eng 24-0published at 4 overs

    Duckett 12, Crawley 10

Ben Duckett, attacking as ever, unfurls the big reverse sweep despite a fielder waiting for that shot in the deep. The Pakistan fielders, and the group of schoolkids in the crowd, get excited but it lands safely and runs for another four.

    Surely it’s the 4, 6 diet?

    Crawley 9, Duckett 5

One thing we should watch is how Pakistan's fielding compares to England's. England caught just about everything and there were very few misfields.

Here 38-year-old Noman Ali dives over one at mid-on to allow Zak Crawley his first boundary.

It’ll be interesting to see Crawley and Duckett’s response to facing almost a complete diet of spin! I assume no change, leave very little, try to hit to the boundary as often as possible. BTW, what would that diet be called?

  13. Pak 9-0published at 2 overs

Sajid Khan falls over as he bowls but whips his right arm over at quite the speed. He goes running away at a similar velocity after hitting Ben Duckett's pad but that was missing leg stump.

From the other end it will be the first of Pakistan's seven spin options, Sajid Khan.

    He's an off-spinner.

You have to aim a straighter line with the ball and hope one will scoot along and keep low.

Great hand-eye coordination from Ben Duckett. He puts away the bad balls very quickly.

  16. Eng 6-0published at 1 over

If the ball is going to shoot low like that I'd rather be 5ft 7ins Ben Duckett than 6ft 5ins Zak Crawley.

England's first run comes via a deflection off Aamer's shin - only adding to the seamer's injury woes - before Duckett bashes a cut to the boundary.

Expecting another big score from Root and Brook in this Test. Root especially must be relishing the prospect of going up against seven spinners!

England will not take a backward step.

In their mind they cannot be seen playing an orthodox tradition way. I think they will come out and play a lot of shots.

  20. Eng 0-0published at 09:27 British Summer Time

Ben Duckett has come side-stepping from the boundary edge towards the middle. He's back at the top of the order alongside Zak Crawley after that thumb injury last week meant he had to drop down.

Seamer Aamer Jamal will take the new ball.
