Erasmus is really firing the balls in at the moment.

  2. Eng 39-2published at 5 overs

    Four? Six? It's the former.

Bairstow cracks Erasmus square, landing just short of the ropes.

He takes a single off the final ball to retain the strike - Harry Brook has only faced four balls.

  3. Eng 34-2published at 4.3 overs

How has that not been caught?

Massive top edge from Bairstow attempting a slog over mid-wicket, the ball seems to hang in the air forever but lands in no-man's land behind the bowler, three baffled fielders all a little short of getting there.

This is now Bairstow's highest score at a T20 World Cup - his previous best was 18 against the West Indies way back in 2012.

Having watched Wiese play a fair bit for Yorkshire Vikings and Northern Superchargers, he is hugely under-rated. Can wallop a big six too!

  5. 6 runs

    Eng 29-2published at 4 overs

And there's the first six of the innings!

Bairstow shifts his feet and dumps Scholtz over long on.

The spinner's final ball takes a top edge, but doesn't drop anywhere near the keeper.

80 might be a decent score on this pitch. Archer and Rashid won't be easy to play at all.

  7. Eng 23-2published at 3.4 overs

First sight of spin from Namibia as they bring on left-armer Bernard Scholtz/

New batter Harry Brook brings Bairstow back on strike with a push to mid-wicket, and the England batter swings at thin air twice, before picking up four with a nice reverse sweep.

  8. Eng 18-2published at 3 overs

    Timed, Jonny.

Another slow knuckleball from Wiese, full this time - Bairstow adjusts and plays a scoopy-drive back over the bowler's head for four.

Wiese sends down a dot to close the over - he's conceded just six runs from his two overs.

Why when this looked likely to be rained off, were all the messages worded as if playing this was a guaranteed win and we'd been robbed of the knockouts by the weather? Game on!

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2.1 overs

    Salt c Green b Wiese 11 (Eng 13-2)

    And now Salt goes!

Knuckleball from Wiese, Salt has a little nibble outside off and offers a simple edge to Zane Green behind the stumps.

Two big powerhitters back in the shed, how damaging will that be in this shortened game?

  11. Eng 3-1published at 2 overs

Salt gets four more from the following ball, throwing his bat under a short ball to lift it up and over third, bouncing just short of the boundary.

A wide and a single close the over, as Salt retains the strike.

    Can it rain again?

    Anon

Lots of chat about whether a loss to Australia, or the rain might knock England out. This loss to Namibia will do it I reckon.

There's relief in those English cheers as Phil Salt bashes the ball down the ground.

    This is horribly tense.

  14. Eng 7-1published at 1.4 overs

Not perfectly timed, but Salt has England's first boundary, striking down the ground for four.

It was big swing into Buttler which cramped him for room. This is far for the ideal start.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.2 overs

    Buttler b Trumpelmann 0 (Eng 2-1)

    Huge wicket.

The England captain departs for a four-ball duck, unable to get Namibia away.

Pitched up by Ruben Trumpelmann and ducking in, the ball clips Buttler's thigh and ricochets into the stumps.

    Here comes Jonny Bairstow.

Arjun Singh: Curran over Jacks is because of the weather and the extra left-handed option. I guess the pitch doesn’t look like a spin-friendly one? Also, if Namibia are stacked with right handers, it won’t be a good match up with Jacks’ spin.

The beauty of bowling first in these conditions is that you get the best of the conditions and figure out what a good score is.
