Henry Brookes in to bowl and Louis Kimber flicks it casually off his toes for six over deep square leg.

The next ball goes even further as Brookes bangs in a short ball and Kimber hooks him for six more.

The third ball clears the old scoreboard and goes out of the ground.

A fourth maximum follows. Kimber moves to 36 off 14 balls.

    He can't. Can he?

No he can't - Brookes sends down a slower ball for a precious dot.

The sixth is also a dot. Boooo!

    Somerset 25-1 v Warwickshire 412

A bit of width on a length from Chris Woakes and Tom Kohler-Cadmore drives through cover point for four.

Steady progress for Somerset after the early loss of Andy Umeed, who was dismissed two balls after blasting a six over long off.

Kohler-Cadmore keeps the strike with a single off the last ball and gets four more with a square leg slog off Oliver Hannon-Dalby.

Not the prettiest of shots, across the line and closing the face but safe enough with only two fielders leg side and nowhere near it.

    Surrey 262 v Essex 114-5

    Dan Whiting
    BBC Radio London

With Jordan Cox not taking any further part for Essex and no substitute allowed, a lot rests on the shoulders of the senior pros.

  4. 'Essex need Walter to go big'published at 14:38 British Summer Time 1 July

    Surrey 262 v Essex 114-5

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Essex sport

As I walked-up the steps to the Oval station this morning, two Essex supporters were discussing their hopes for the day, let’s just say those hopes are crashing and burning.

No Jordan Cox for the rest of the game, Jamie Porter has a hand injury but can carry on, Dean Elgar and Paul Walter have both been struck while batting and they are up against a bowling attack which is finding enough in the pitch and the overhead conditions to promise more wickets.

Essex need Walter to go big.

  5. Postpublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 1 July

    Surrey 262 v Essex 114-5

    Wicket maiden for Dan Worrall.

We have a pause in play during the next over as a physio applies what appears to be plaster or a piece of tape to Paul Walter's injured hand.

A cut or a blister, possibly. Ouch.

SIX!published at 14:37 British Summer Time 1 July

    Leics 179 & 194-6 v Middx 86 - Leics lead by 287

Ben Cox has gone into T20 mode as he swings hard at the first ball of Toby Roland-Jones' 18th over

He lofts it over long on boundary and into the members seats. That'll make sure everyone is paying attention.

Cox goes again next ball but it's a swing and a miss.

The Middlesex skipper may be a little perturbed as he sends a wild bouncer down legside which evades wicketkeeper Jack Davies and goes for four byes.

    The lead builds to 287.

  7. Postpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 1 July

    Somerset 15-1 v Warwickshire 412

Tom Lammonby is forward to Chris Woakes and gets his first run off his ninth delivery by driving into the off side for a single.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby bowls a tight line just outside off and Lammonby leaves it.

He gets one more run off the fourth ball with a push into mid off.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore drives the next ball through cover for four.

Keith Barker takes a big swing, trying to whack the cover off the ball, but misses the flight and sees middle and off clattered.

He departs for 45 from 45 balls with five fours.

    Kyle Abbott joins Felix Organ.

That one big score that Andy Umeed is searching for so much in County Championship cricket eludes him again.

Toby Roland-Jones overpitches and Louis Kimber isn't going to miss out on that.

He punches it straight back down the ground through the off side for his second boundary of the over.

Kimber moves on to eight off just seven balls.

  12. wicket

WICKET Fuller b Evison 41published at 14:29 British Summer Time 1 July

    Hampshire 469-7 v Kent

Joey Evison has a third wicket and Kent break that promising partnership of 69 from 85 balls.

James Fuller plays on trying to guide away into the leg side which brings Felix Organ to the middle to join Keith Barker, who has a run-a-ball 43.

  13. Postpublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 1 July

    Hampshire 469-6 v Kent

The boundaries keep flowing for Hampshire, 14 runs coming off the latest Matt Parkinson over as Keith Barker goes through the gears.

He has now overhauled James Fuller with 43.

  14. Postpublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 1 July

    Surrey 262 v Essex 113-4

Maiden for Dan Worrall as Michael Pepper plays the last ball safely to Rory Burns at mid off.

Runs for Paul Walter, who drives and edges past a vacant third slip for four.

Jamie Smith occupied that position a moment ago!

Walter drives through the off side but the ball is stopped at extra cover.

The batter hooks at a shorter fifth ball and misses.

He connects with the last ball, which is short, wide of off and dabbed through backward point for four.

Northamptonshire keep chipping away as two Justin Broad wickets have Sussex seven down.

Unfortunately for the hosts, the visitors are 211-7 and already 257 runs ahead, with skipper John Simpson unbeaten on 30.

And at Cheltenham, Aussie opener Cameron Bancroft (37 not out) and Miles Hammond (43 not out) are closing in on half-centuries and have put on 75 for the third wicket.

Gloucestershire have chiselled out a second-innings lead of 74 over Glamorgan with eight wickets in hand.

  16. wicket

    WICKET Umeed c Bethell b Hannon-Dalby 6published at 14:21 British Summer Time 1 July

    Somerset 6-1 v Warwickshire 412

Two balls after that six, Andy Umeed is out.

Seam movement on a length from Oliver Hannon-Dalby, forcing Umeed to play - and that ball has been edged low to Jacob Bethell at third slip trying to defend.

Time for Tom Lammonby to bat.

  17. ouch!

Paul Walter struck on the arm by rising deliverypublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 1 July

    Surrey 262 v Essex 105-4

Paul Walter is down on his knees and clutching his elbow after being hit on the arm while trying to leave a lifting ball from Jordan Clark outside off stump.

    The physio is coming on.

He'll bat on. This is really tough going.

  18. Postpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 1 July

    Hampshire 450-6 v Kent

The 50 partnership for the seventh wicket comes up with a James Fuller slap down the ground for a one-bounce four off Matt Parkinson.

Fuller and Keith Barker have contributed 25 apiece.

Fuller is only 10 away from a half-century, which might not be long as he seems to be playing with increasing freedom.

He'll be hoping to bat his side into a position where they might not need to bat again in this match.

  19. wicket

WICKET Goldsworthy c Robson b 71published at 14:18 British Summer Time 1 July

    Leics 179 & 168-5 v Middx 86 - Leics lead by 261

Told you that wouldn't be long.

No overs have been lost after that brief 10-minute hold-up for rain.

And Middlesex strike first ball back!

Lewis Goldsworthy will be furious as he wafts at an outswinger from Toby Roland-Jones and offers a simple catch to Sam Robson at first slip.

    That's a fourth wicket for Roland-Jones.

    Ben Cox joins Louis Kimber.

    Somerset 6-0 v Warwickshire 412

Four slips are in for Chris Woakes, who starts with a maiden over and gets Tom Kohler-Cadmore to play and miss outside off stump.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby opens the bowling from the other end and is pumped for six second ball by Andy Umeed, lofting down the ground!

Well, that's one way to play yourself in.
