Rahmat has batted really well, he's kept the score ticking over. He's probably been the most classy batter, he's kept it consistent. In the midst of chaos he's kept going.

  2. 50 runs

50 for Rahmat Shahpublished at 33 overs

    Afg 139-6

    There's the half-century!

Rahmat Shah brings up his 50 from 62 deliveries, placing Jansen's penultimate ball to mid-wicket's left and running two.

He fends away the following delivery for a dot ball.

  3. Not outpublished at 32.1 overs

    Afg 180-6

Yep, good a fair way down the leg side.

    I don't think that was even punt-worthy.

  4. Umpire reviewpublished at 32.1 overs

Huh, they're going to have a look.

Marco Jansen hits Gulbadin relatively high on the pad and it looks to be heading down the leg side.

With just four wickets left and two reviews in hand, South Africa decide they may as well have a gander...

  6. Afg 136-6published at 32 overs

    180 needed from 18 overs

A couple of singles from Keshav Maharaj's sixth over - he's conceded 20 runs overall.

The required run-rate is now exactly 10 an over.

That's a lovely shot from Gulbadin.

I wonder how Afghanistan are going to approach the rest of this game. Gulbadin is approaching it with some real tenacity here.

  8. Afg 134-6published at 31 overs

    The black cat is back!

The feline that strayed onto the pitch on Wednesday has wandered onto the outfield again.

Kagiso Rabada jogs vaguely in its direction to encourage it to run off.

Its presence seemingly changes the fortunes of Afghanistan - they hit two fours off Jansen's over, with Gulbadin helping a delivery through the leg slip region and then sending a meaty pull over mid-on.

  9. Afg 121-6published at 30 overs

Rahmat Shah takes a single from the first ball of Maharaj's over and new batter Gulbadin Naib bats out the remaining five deliveries without scoring.

Nabi was late on that one. It's a good bouncer from Jansen, he's tall so he'll get more bounce than anyone else.

It's not looking great for Afghanistan now.

Rabada takes the easiest of catches. It doesn't look great now for Afghanistan.

    Spooned to the fielder!

Marco Jansen accounts for Mohammad Nabi, seeing the Afghanistan batter completely mis-time a pull to send the ball straight into the hands of Kagiso Rabada at square leg.

  13. Afg 117-5published at 28 overs

A trio of singles off Maharaj's over as the required run-rate creeps above nine an over.

The South African spinner goes up for an lbw appeal against Nabi from his final delivery, but gets nothing from umpire Alex Wharf.

  14. Afg 114-5published at 27 overs

Kagiso Rabada sends down a bouncer that hurries Rahmat Shah a little, but the Afghanistan batter manages to help the ball on its way to the boundary with a pull shot.

Nine runs come from the over, but Rabada still has figures of 2-30 from his seven.

  15. Afg 105-5published at 26 overs

Rahmat places the next into the covers for two, and three more singles follow.

Afghanistan started with a required run-rate of 6.32 runs an over - it's now up to 8.79.

Afghanistan need to play out the 50 overs. If they do, it will be somewhat of a success for them but seems unlikely. There's been no rhythm in this innings, we've not seen a regular pattern of singles or rotation of the strike.

  17. Afg 100-5published at 25.1 overs

    Thanks Tim.

And as I come on, Nabi rolls Maharaj's first delivery to long-off to bring up Afghanistan's 100.

    Just 216 runs to go.

This should be a formality for South Africa from here.

This is a crucial game so Afghanistan need to see how they can play all 50 overs.

  20. Afg 99-5published at 25 overs

Kagiso Rabada is a real handful for Afghanistan's batters. He's bowled in the channel, or at the stumps, and given precious little width to allow them to free their arms.

Mohammad Nabi nudges one into the leg side to keep the strike.

Rabada has an impressive 2-21 from his six overs.
