  3. 'It took a very long time coming'published at 17:45 British Summer Time

India captain and player of the match Smriti Mandhana at the presentation: "It took a very long time coming. I have a habit of getting out in the 70s, 80s, but me and one of my teammates talked before the tour [and] said it was time I got a century. I'm happy it came in the first match.

"English wickets are good to bat on and with the wind factor, you just have to time the ball. For me, batting was easy because of the way Harleen Deol started [her innings]."

On India's performance in the field: "It's a good wicket and the wind factor is huge, but if you're bowling against the wind, you have to bowl slower. The only conversation was trying to get Nat Sciver-Brunt off strike. The way the bowlers executed their plans was amazing to watch.

"It's just the start. We need to keep this momentum going and get into good habits."

  5. 'It didn't go our way today'published at 17:42 British Summer Time

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt on Sky Sports: "India are world-class and challenged us. We didn't bowl as well as we wanted and we weren't able to back that up in the field. They also got a huge total."

On sloppy fielding: "You would like to take every catch but it didn't go our way today. It's something to work on."

On her batting innings: "The pitch slowed up slightly but you have to keep going when you are chasing. We were behind but everyone came in with great intent. We looked to play too squarely today. I was trying to get on strike and come back for twos and get boundaries in every over."

On positives: "We executed at times with the ball. We gained energy towards the end but there are loads of things we can take away. It is the first game so we are looking forward to coming back."

One of the few positives for England today was Nat Sciver-Brunt's performance with the bat.

Here are the highlights from her 66 (42).

    India won by 97 runs

It's a first defeat of the Charlotte Edwards/Nat Sciver-Brunt era for England.

Where to start with what went wrong? Expensive bowling, sloppy fielding, dropped catches, and a poor batting performance, with seven players dismissed for single-figure scores and Sciver-Brunt (66 off 42) the only play to pass 15.

But plenty of credit also has to go to India. Smriti Mandhana was imperious throughout her maiden T20I century, top-scoring with 112 off 62 balls and really making England pay for dropping her in the second over.

T20I debutant Shree Charani also impressed, taking 4-12 as England collapsed in a heap with the bat.

England have been blown away and India were clinical with the ball. It was always going to be tough when they lost their openers cheaply.

Nat Sciver-Brunt is the only person who has really put their hand up in this innings. England have been entirely swept away by India.

Yup, it's out. Richa Ghosh knew it and Nat Sciver-Brunt knew it.

India are absolutely convinced they've removed Nat Sciver-Brunt.

Wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh immediately signals to Smriti Mandhana that she wants the review. She knows she's caught an edge from the England skipper.

India found so many more gaps than England have been able to. England seem to be picking out the fielders.

When India were given a full toss, it went for four.

She's retained the strike, although you suspect that doesn't really matter at this stage. The required rate has soared above 15.

You can see what Ecclestone was trying to do, it just went slightly straighter than she had hoped. Her return to international cricket hasn't been what we were all expecting.
