Right, Lauren Bell has ball in hand and is at the top of her mark.

    Shafali Verma is on strike.

    Let's do this.

Sophie Ecclestone is fit and ready to go. You can't not pick her when she is fit. Every team she is in part of is immediately elevated.

It has all come at her at once but things can only get better for her. I also love Linsey Smith and Sophie Ecclestone together because there was talk of Smith only being there while Ecclestone was out. Smith has earned her place here.

England head coach Charlotte Edwards spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live a little earlier: "There's a real excitement around this series for us. A big opportunity to play at some bigger grounds and test ourselves against one of the best teams in the world.

"This is going to be a tougher test for us [than West Indies]. This India batting line-up provides us with an opportunity to expose some of our young bowlers and a new bowling group in many ways. It gives us an opportunity to look at options.

"I think the great thing about this group is we're learning all the time."

This is a much bigger test for England than the West Indies. It's a good way for them to get back into international cricket after the Ashes.

India are the third best team in the world so I am expecting a big contest.

  5. 'Good wicket to bat on'published at 14:22 British Summer Time

India skipper Smriti Mandhana to Sky Sports: "We'd have fielded first as well but Trent Bridge is always a good wicket to bat on. We have to put good runs on the board."

On the squad: "Harmanpreet Kaur suffered a head injury playing in the last match, so she's being monitored. I'm sure she'll be fine [for later in the series].

"We're going with two pacers and four spinners - we'll stick to our strengths."

On India's preparations: "Coming to England is always exciting. Next year, same time, we'll be playing a T20 World Cup here, so these five T20s will be good practice for that.

"It's been brilliant preparations. We've played a few practice matches, had a few good net sessions, a few of our girls are touring here for the first time."

It's a scorcher in Nottingham, no need to be checking weather apps for rain today.

The players will no doubt be pleased to be playing at Trent Bridge - with its short boundaries and quick outfield - because I wouldn't fancy running too many twos or threes in these conditions.

A short walk from the station was enough for me.

  7. 'Selection was difficult'published at 14:14 British Summer Time

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt to Sky Sports: "We're going to have a bowl. It looks a good wicket and we have played a lot of cricket at Trent Bridge. We're excited to get going.

"First series in the new captaincy, it has been a little bit of getting used to for me. Everyone has performed well recently so it made selection very difficult.

"Next summer is massive for us with the World Cup so we are looking forward to that. Our team is similar to the last series but Sophie Ecclestone and Tammy Beaumont come back in."

  9. Harmanpreet misses outpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time

The big team news for India is Smriti Mandhana skippers in place of Harmanpreet Kaur, who is struggling with a head injury. Left-arm spinner Shree Charani comes in to make her debut.

The BCCI have just said her absence is a "precautionary measure" following a head injury sustained during the T20 Warm-up match against an ECB Select XI.

The big news is Sophie Ecclestone is back in England colours having been named in XI for today.

The world's number one bowler in ODIs and ranked fourth in T20s, has dominated the build-up to the series as she returns to the England fold for the first time since the Ashes.

The left-arm spinner made headlines for her off-field behaviour in Australia when she refused a TV interview with former team-mate turned pundit Alex Hartley, who had criticised the team's fitness after the T20 World Cup.

She was then left out of Edwards' first squads for the West Indies series, having missed the start of Lancashire's season with a knee injury. England insisted her absence was due to a lack of game time and to recover from the niggle, though Ecclestone played for her county on the same day the squad was announced.

It was confirmed at the beginning of this month that Ecclestone would take a break from county cricket to "prioritise her wellbeing" and to manage a quad problem, before Edwards named her in the squad to face India.

  11. England won the toss and bowl firstpublished at 14:03 British Summer Time

Right, straight to the toss. Ravi Shastri is master of ceremonies and he's approaching matters with his usual zest.

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt gave the coin a flick and stand-in skipper Smriti Mandhana called incorrectly.

    Sciver-Brunt decides to bowl first.

It's all smiles at the moment.
