    Target 310

    Oh!

Josh Inglis swings and misses at a good-length ball from Brydon Carse, there's the slightest cry from him but nothing from the keeper or anybody else. Carse eventually withdraws the appeal, in the end he doesn't even turn around to look at the umpire.

Ultra-edge shows a faint spike! What a miss.

With the rain coming and if they can sneak through those 20 overs, the game really comes down to whether England can take a wicket in the next few overs without giving away too many runs.

Steve Smith's already had one close call.

Australia need a calm, experienced head out there with all of these uncertainties at play in terms of the weather. He's just the player for that, and therefore the most important one for England to get rid of.

The rain feels close now. It's dark and even windier.

England either need a flurry of wickets or slow down their overs and escape with a no result.

  5. Aus 120-2published at 14 overs

    Target 310

Adil Rashid whizzes through another tidy over, just three singles from it as Steve Smith and Josh Inglis settle into their partnership.

England's bowling economy rate of 6.94 inside the powerplay this series is their second-highest in a three-match ODI series.

The highest being 7.20 during the 2006 series vs Sri Lanka.

  7. Aus 118-2published at 13 overs

    Target 310

Josh Inglis joins Steve Smith in the middle.

So, we need 20 overs to constitute a game if the rain comes and Australia are OK for now - if they're two down, the DLS target is 113. If they lose another wicket, they'd need to be on 133.

That's beautiful bowling from Matthew Potts, he just dragged the length a fraction. Matt Short has played a brilliant innings, but it's a timely wicket for England and they will pray this rain holds off for a while now.

    Huge!

Matthew Potts is smoked for four from the previous ball by going too full, so he wisely drags his length back a fraction and Short tries to repeat the shot. Instead, he feathers an edge through to Jamie Smith and Potts releases a roar of delight, fists clenched.

Short played beautifully for his 58 from just 30 balls, but he trudges off looking frustrated that he couldn't guide Australia to victory.

  10. Aus 112-1published at 12 overs

    Target 310

    Just brilliant from Adil Rashid.

In the face of such aggression from the Australian batters, he concedes just one from his first over and brings England some much-needed calm and control.

Matt Short's half-century came from 23 balls with 48 of those runs coming from boundaries - four sixes and six fours. It's the eighth-fastest for Australia in this format and their fastest-ever ODI 50 against England.

It's been a six-fest so far today, unsurprisingly given the short boundaries at Bristol.

Australia have hit six of them so far, four from Matt Short and these two from Travis Head.

That's an outstanding strike from Matt Short. He just stands and delivers, it's brilliant to watch.

    Aus 111-1

England keep feeding Matt Short the short ball and he keeps sending it into the stands.

He pummels his fourth six to reach a 23-ball half-century as Australia continue to attack.

A reminder of this costly chance to get rid of Matt Short on 26.

He's moved on to 46 from just 22 balls.

  17. Aus 103-1published at 10 overs

    Target 310

Steve Smith rubs salt into the wound with a nicely-timed drive for four, the ball racing past mid-off.

Potts continues to test him though, an inside edge saving Smith from another nip-backer before he edges one down to deep third for a single.

But the over ends poorly, with Potts bowling a wide and the extra ball is clipped for four more by Matt Short. 10 from it, and Australia end the powerplay very strongly despite the loss of Travis Head.

In the end, it's a really good review from Steve Smith. It looked stone-cold LBW from here.

    Oh, it's missing!

What a good review that is. Smith leans on all his experience, and it pays off, with ball-tracking showing the ball to be missing leg stump.

  20. Australia reviewpublished at 9.1 overs

    Hello!

Steve Smith is trapped on the pads from a very full delivery from Matthew Potts. He's playing all around his front pad and it's given!

But is it doing too much? The stand-in skipper sends it upstairs.
