  1. Pak 260-1published at 59 overs

England have managed something they had not for 40 overs - a maiden.

    Jack Leach is the bowler.

Brydon Carse, red in the face and with sweat dripping from his forehand, walks back to his mark with his hands on his hips as he tries to suck in some of this hot, dry air.

He musters up a rare threatening delivery which Abdullah Shafique gloves over Ben Duckett at leg slip.

    More frustration.

There's some consolation for England as the scoring-rate has eased up a little bit.

  4. Pak 256-1published at 57 overs

    Shafique 100, Masood 147

Shan Masood is hopping around with the tell-tale signs of cramp now after stretching his limbs to get low and reverse sweep Jack Leach for four.

It's 34 degrees in Multan currently. Tough going.

Pakistan are ticking over four-and-a-half runs an over by not trying to do too much.

England have had some tired deliveries since the tea break - 20 minutes never seems a long enough break.

  6. Pak 251-1published at 56 overs

Abdullah Shafique hobbles a little briefly, I think suffering with cramp, but seems to shake it almost instantly to run a single.

Brydon Carse looks tired now. The ball is looping through to Jamie Smith.

It is Abdullah Shafique's fifth Test hundred.

In Shafique's last seven innings he's been out for under five, six times.

    A welcome return to form.

  8. Pak 246-1published at 55 overs

    Shafique 100, Masood 141

There was at least the lbw decision Shan Masood had to overturn earlier on review. Abdullah Shafique hasn't looked flustered all day.

    Well played Abdullah Shafique.

He was patient after the break and he has played beautiful today - it's his fifth hundred.

England in trouble here, you feel this is not going well for them at all.

  10. 100 runs

100 to Abdullah Shafiquepublished at 54.5 overs

Abdullah Shafique goes to his century with a six! Jack Leach has been pumped way back.

Off comes the helmet. Shafique points to the name on his back with his bat.

    A superb knock.

There were only 6.7% false shots played by Pakistan in the second session today.

That is the eighth-lowest false shot % in a session against the England attack in the Bazball era.

It is familiar for England though – eight of the 10 lowest false shot % sessions for England’s bowling attack in this period have all come in Pakistan.

  12. Pak 239-1published at 54 overs

There's not a lot more to report from that Carse over. That near miss may have persuaded Shan Masood to knuckle back down.

It has got to that moment where you're waiting for a tired batter to make a mistake.

That would have been a bonus wicket. It was hit like a shell into Pope's boots.

  15. dropped catch

    Pak 236-1published at 53.2 overs

    Almost!

Shan Masood thrashes Brydon Carse towards Ollie Pope at point but I don't think it has quite carried.

Pope couldn't get his fingers under the ball. He's grinning a wry smile.

Brydon Carse is going to begin from the other end but there's a hold up. One over into the session the physio is on the field giving something or other to Shan Masood.

  17. Pak 236-1published at 53 overs

I mentioned the crowd being small earlier but it has grown now. Jack Leach rubs his hands in the dirt to try and get extra grip on the ball but it still cannot squeeze anymore spin out of this track.

  18. Pak 233-1published at 52 overs

Shan Masood already has his century. Abdullah Shafique is hoping to follow him and will resume unbeaten on 94.

Jack Leach is going to bowl.

We've got a long session to come with 38 overs remaining in the day.

Shoaib Bashir is surely going to feature heavily. He and fellow spinner Rehan Ahmed have been speaking to BBC Asian Network about this tour.

We have already mentioned Pakistan first innings of the first Test against England two years ago when the hosts scored 500 and still lost.

They also made 448-6 declared against Bangladesh a few weeks ago and lost by 10 wickets.

Don't put all your chips in on a draw just yet.
