Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine spoke of his side's disappointment at not being able to capitalise on good batting openings in both innings:

"We gave ourselves a good platform in both innings but our lower order let us down a little bit with some cheap wickets."

Looking to the positives, he spoke of his side's excellent bowling attack:

"The future looks bright with fast bowlers like Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava and Tanaka Chivanga.

We maybe would have liked a few more overs last night but that's how this game goes. We're looking forward to welcoming Ireland in the New Year."

He said his side believed they could win even after the disastrous evening session yesterday:

"We spoke in the dressing room last night about how we had two of the best test batsmen at the crease and that we still believed we could win."

The Pembroke man spoke of the nature of Test cricket and never giving up:

"The beauty of Test cricket is the ebbs and flows. Last night was a tough watch but today we got our rewards for four days of hard work and we are delighted to win this Test here in front of our friends, family and fans."

Balbirnie was also full of praise for Andy McBrine and says his side are already looking forward to visiting Zimbabwe in the new year for a return Test.

    Ire 158-6

Jubilant scenes here in east Belfast as Ireland storm back from a disastrous evening session yesterday to roar back and win this historic test.

Lorcan Tucker and Andy McBrine were at the crease on 33-5 this morning and both reached 50 to lead their country to victory. The Zimbabwe bowling attack was not close to the ferocity with which they bowled last night but the Ireland batsmen were superb.

Credit too must go to Mark Adair who stepped up after a dislocated finger yesterday and contributed after Muzarabani brought Tucker's innings to a close.

Two test wins in a row and the first on home soil for Ireland

Ireland taking their singles and are not pushing it as they edge to victory. You honestly couldn't have said yesterday leaving Stormont that you saw this coming.

Slightly optimistic appeals for an lbw on McBrine but nothing doing.
