    Australia will bat all day.

England coach Jon Lewis gave his players a rather animatedly pep talk on the outfield at the MCG before play starts this morning. He looked like a man whose job was on the line.

Anyway, England's players are in a huddle on the edge of the boundary while Phoebe Litchfield and Annabel Sutherland make their way out to the middle.

Warwickshire first-team coach on TNT Sports

If I was the Australia coach I would be thinking about winning that first hour, and putting Sophie Ecclestone under pressure. They will know the danger of letting her settle.

  4. 'Have to be patient'published at 03:19 Greenwich Mean Time

Nat Sciver-Brunt, speaking to TNT Sports: "It's a difficult surface seaming round and with spin and Australia bowled so well yesterday. I was hoping to get a partnership going but we knew it would be difficult, especially with wickets falling fast.

"Obviously we'd have loved to score quicker but I tired to adapt. We'll see what happens today. Hopefully we can take some wickets this morning but we have to be patient. Sophie Ecclestone is key whatever format we play and some times she will attack and others sit in. She'll do a great job for us."

One of the more unusual images from the Women's Ashes came yesterday when what felt like a thousand gulls descended on the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

There's a metaphor for England's fortunes this winter. But it's 03:15 GMT and my brain has not quite kicked into gear, yet. It will come to me after a coffee, perhaps.

Anyway, welcome to live coverage of day two of the one-off Ashes Test from the MCG.
