At this moment the game is gone, but Sophie Ecclestone can get England somewhat back into it if she keeps batting like this.

She has nothing to lose at this point.

  3. 6 runs

    Eng 127-6published at 13.2 overs

A bit of defiance, at least, from Sophie Ecclestone. She rocks back and heaves Megan Schutt for six through mid-wicket. Have a bit of that.

  4. Eng 120-6published at 13 overs

Australia four wickets away from retaining the Ashes as this becomes a bit of a big ask for England.

Amy Jones looks rather accusingly at the SCG surface. Normally it is easier to chase under the lights but there is nothing she could have done there, the ball kept so low.

    England's nightmares against spin continue.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 12.5 overs

    Jones b Wareham 12 (Eng 116-6)

Georgia Wareham's leg-breaks are tricky for Amy Jones and Freya Kemp to get away and the lack of bounce does for the former as she is bowled.

Jones goes back to it and, attempting to hit to leg, sees the ball skid through low and it strikes her leg stump.

The England wicketkeeper lingers on the crease with a 'what I am I supposed to do about that' look furrowed on her face.

England have really struggled with left-handers in the middle order. Since Lydia Greenway there has been such a big gulf without one.

Freya Kemp can really impact a game so quickly. That would just just give it a bit of balance if Sophia Dunkley can bring some energy at the top alongside Danni Wyatt-Hodge.

  8. Eng 112-5published at 12 overs

Freya Kemp is the new batter for England.

It was a slower ball from Tahlia McGrath. Sophie Dunkley tried to play it square of the wicket but McGrath gets through to the stumps.

Dunkley's efforts probably won't be enough but she has carried this England team on her own so far.

Will that be the Women's Ashes? It feels that way. Dunkley cannot believe it, she has to keep walking.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11.4 overs

    Dunkley b McGrath 59 (Eng 110-5)

    Gah.

Sophia Dunkley attempts to heave Tahlia McGrath into the stands, but this time she is undone by the stand-in Aussie skipper.

McGrath perhaps holds the pace off ever so slightly and Dunkley can only hit fresh air with her slog sweep and is bowled.

  13. Eng 108-4published at 11.2 overs

    Sophia Dunkley's brutal assault continues.

She plays across the line to Tahlia McGrath, picking one quite wide from outside off stump, but has both timing and power to reach the boundary through long on.

England will be having nightmares about Alana King. She is picking up wickets for fun - she has got 2-7 from 13 balls.

It was a good partnership for Knight and that's the most important thing. They stayed up with the rate well, given that England don't bat as deep as Australia.

  15. Eng 103-4published at 11 overs

Amy Jones gets of the mark against Alana King with a hearty biff down the ground. England will need more of it in the second half of their innings as the Aussies turn the screw.

That's the fifth time Alana King has dismissed Heather Knight in T20 cricket, she now averages just 14 against her.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 10.1 overs

    Knight lbw b King 18 (Eng 96-4)

Wow. That looked a quite speculative call, but it turned out to be a brilliant one for Australia.

Alana King's 13th wicket in this Ashes series.

Heather Knight's decision to play a somewhat premeditated reverse sweep to King straight after drinks perhaps not the wisest move.

On first viewing it looked to be slipping down leg but the ball-tracking technology has it hitting the top of leg stump and Knight has to depart.

  18. Australia reviewpublished at 10.1 overs

Heather Knight attempts to reverse sweep Alana King's first ball after drinks and is struck on the pad. Given not out. However, Australia decide to send it upstairs.

Sophia Dunkley is keeping this run chase alive. She has made some technical changes in the the way she holds the bat and opens her stance to the ball.

But England cannot afford to lose a wicket in these next few overs.
