Sciver-Brunt hits 117 to reach fifth world cup century 'in grand style'

  1. SL 44-1published at 11 overs

    Target 254

Make that five wides, David. Nat Sciver-Brunt is the guilty party and the second wide of the over is a wide wide.

She also concedes a boundary as a short delivery is gleefully accepted by Hasini Perera, pulling for four.

Sri Lanka bowled three wides in the whole innings. England have bowled that many in less than 11 overs. Extras could be important.

Charlie Dean is finding an average of 3.4° of spin so far in this World Cup - the most for any England bowler.

  4. SL 37-1published at 10 overs

    Target 254

An excellent opening over from Charlie Dean - a wicket maiden and the ball turning all over the place.

Sri Lanka are 37-1 at the end of the powerplay, chasing 254, although captain Chamari Athapaththu has retired hurt.

England were 50-2 at the same stage.

Brilliant delivery, especially for a first one. Pitches outside off stump, and it turns and it clips the top of the leg stump. Right up there for delivery of the day.

Brilliant Dean delivery bowls Gunaratne for 7

Charlie Dean! She removes Vishmi Gunaratne with her first delivery!

Lovely turn to deceive the batter.

  7. SL 37-0published at 9 overs

    Target 254

As if Nat Sciver-Brunt hasn't already done enough today, she brings herself on to bowl the penultimate over of the powerplay.

Four singles are followed by probably the shot of the innings, Hasini Perera deftly dabbing the ball through third for four.

  8. SL 29-0published at 8 overs

    Target 254

Hasini Perera sweeps and sets off for a risky two. A better throw from Emma Lamb, looping it in from the deep, and she'd have been in real trouble.

Not far away from either fielder there, but a lovely bit of timing straight through the middle from Vishmi.

  10. SL 26-0published at 7 overs

    Target 254

Oooooh Vishmi Gunaratne gets off the mark with a boundary. It's marvellously timed through mid-wicket, just out of reach of both Nat Sciver-Brunt and Sophia Dunkley.

And she follows it up with another four towards point.

Serves me right for starting to count dot balls.

  11. SL 18-0published at 6 overs

    Target 254

Chamari Athapaththu's single - just before her unfortunate departure - is the only scoring shot of the over.

Chamari Athapaththu has been stretchered off, retired hurt for 7 (20).

Vishmi Gunaratne comes on in her place.

    Sri Lanka are 18-0.

Chamari Athapaththu looks like she's in agony every time the physio touches her leg.

A stretcher is being brought on and the Sri Lanka captain has been surrounded by support staff.

  14. SL 18-0published at 5.3 overs

    Target 254

Chamari Athapaththu jogs a single and then lies down on her front, whipping off her gloves and pointing to her right hamstring.

A physio has come out and a leg is being stretched.

Lauren Bell has the highest release point of any seamer in the competition (1.97m)

  16. SL 17-0published at 5 overs

    Target 254

A bit messy from Lauren Bell. Three wides make it a nine-ball over and a rogue shorter delivery races away to the rope, Hasini Perera picking up her first boundary.

In other news, I've finally realised what Sri Lanka's kit reminds me of and it's Boca Juniors.

  17. SL 10-0published at 4 overs

    Target 254

Chamari Athapaththu puts an end to Sri Lanka's binary cricket, taking one step down and banging Linsey Smith down the ground for four. Smith watches the ball fly away with an "ooooooh".

I do think there is an opportunity for Lauren Bell to get the ball to go away and then bring one nice and full and shape it back. Athapaththu has a tendency to fall over her pads whilst trying to clip it to the leg side, so there is a chance to get her lbw or bowled.

  19. SL 5-0published at 3 overs

    Target 254

Lovely bowling from Lauren Bell, getting the ball to move away from Chamari Athapaththu to start the over.

She finishes it with a full delivery, the Sri Lanka skipper jabbing her bat down to block it.

    Two singles.

Linsey Smith has found 2.2° of drift on average so far in this tournament. Only South Africa’s Chloe Tryon has found more.
