Partnership was 38, and you got a sense that Charlie Dean was trying to be a bit expansive, but Sri Lanka set the field accordingly. She was trying to get it finer than she eventually did, so maybe someone like Sophie Eccelstone is able to go down the ground with her power.

Sophie Ecclestone strides out. Surely she has to have a swing? That's her preferred method.

Sri Lanka just won't go away here. After building a partnership Charlie Dean flicks to short fine leg as she looks to up the scoring.

This game is still in the balance.

Make that 26 deliveries since a boundary. This over includes only singles. There are giggles and laughs on the England bench. They look content for now.

It is 23 balls since England hit a boundary...

We can see all three stumps and it pitched outside leg. I genuinely think Sri Lanka needs a DRS coach because I don't think teams work on this, and it is so crucial in ICC tournaments.

Prabodani is a left-arm seamer bowling over the wicket. Nat Sciver-Brunt is hit while standing outside leg stump. It just cannot be out.

Sri Lanka are out of reviews with six overs to go.

  10. Sri Lanka reviewpublished at 13:40 BST

Chamari Athapaththu has called for another review against Nat Sciver-Brunt. They've already gone for one shocker. This one doesn't look much better.

    Sciver-Brunt 77, Dean 13

Charlie Dean is looking busy, without swinging for the Sri Lankan hills. She shapes for a reverse sweep on one occasion before aborting as the ball is fired down the leg side. Later she tries to charge Sugandika Dasanayaka and the spinner fires to squeeze it under her bat. It's a good contest. Honours even as six runs come from the over.

  12. Eng 189-6published at 42 overs

England continue to knock it around. Five singles from the over. There is still spin there. Sophie Ecclestone will be tough to face.

I think we have a game on our hands. If Sri Lanka can hold England back and hope that the tail doesn't wag, and restrict England to 220-230, that's something Sri Lanka could easily chase.

Nat Sciver-Brunt now averages 60.46 in World Cups at a strike rate of 96. Of the 10 players to have 500+ runs for England in World Cups, only Sarah Taylor averages more (61.14)

  15. Eng 184-6published at 41 overs

    Sciver-Brunt 70, Dean 9

Different country, different pitch, different pressures, I know, but Sri Lanka chased 302 to beat South Africa in Potchefstroom last year. Chamari Athapaththu got a quite incredible 195 not out that day. They do have history of chasing.

All of that means England need runs and Charlie Dean gets a boundary on the reverse sweep with the help of some dodgy fielding.

I think England needs to get over the 250 mark, and you talk about psychological numbers and how difficult the pitch has become. I think 250 plus would be a big ask for Sri Lanka.

  17. Eng 179-6published at 40 overs

England have only scored at 3.4 runs per over through the last 10 overs. It looks like they're going to do what David asks as another over of only singles follows.

You just get a sense that England are going to conserve here, take what's on offer and maybe around the 45th over take some risks. It depends on how quickly Charlie Dean can get settled here.

Inoka Ranaweera has been the pick of the spinners so far today - 44% of her deliveries are hitting the stumps while she's also finding 3.4° of turn.

Both are the highest among the four Sri Lankan spinners on display.

  20. Eng 176-6published at 39 overs

You've made Eoin Morgan shudder, David. He repeatedly told his great England ODI team how he didn't care if they batted out the overs. Scoring the runs, however you do it, is the important thing.

Left-arm spinner Inoka Ranaweera finishes with 3-33 from 10 overs.
