Summary

  1. Ireland ticking along nicelypublished at 30 overs

    Ireland 149-3

This fourth-wicket partnership for Ireland is worth 75 now.

Technically, Orla Prendergast is dropped on 73. She absolutely thumped a Hannah Baker delivery straight back at the bowler. it was travelling and Baker couldn't hang on. She remains in the middle on 75, while Leah Paul has 22.

Kate Cross has brought herself back on.

  2. Eng 307-8published at 66 overs

Josh Hull, on debut, is the new batter for England. He joins Olly Stone, who has only faced one ball himself.

A couple of wild swipes from Hull outside off and he connects with nothing but fresh air. He looks like he could hit it a long way if he does get hold of one - but he hasn't looked particularly likely to do so as yet.

It's his bowling that England are interested in, though.

England are collapsing, it's all about the way they're playing, they're looking to move the game on and they're getting caught.

Fine innings from Ollie Pope, they're standing up all around The Oval after he's scored half of England's runs.

  5. wicket

    Pope c Karunaratne b V Fernando 154 (Eng 307-8)

The Oval rises to Ollie Pope as he is caught in the deep.

Two wickets in three balls for Sri Lanka. Vishwa Fernando bangs it in short, Pope tries to swat it away for six but picks out Dimuth Karunaratne at deep backward square.

England are falling away a bit but that has been a wonderful knock from Pope. A first ton as captain, and on his home ground.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 64.5 overs

    Atkinson c Rathnayake b Dhananjaya 5 (Eng 307-7)

Dhananjaya de Silva has his second.

The Sri Lanka skipper tosses the ball up, Gus Atkinson skips down and tries to hoick the ball over the leg side.

But the Enghland man gets nowhere near the pitch of the ball and it goes high and not very far into the leg side, where Milan Rathnayake comes in off the rope to pouch the catch.

  7. Eng 303-6published at 64 overs

Super over from Vishwa Fernando, causing Gus Atkinson problems with swing and bounce.

Atkinson plays and misses at one, is hit on the thigh pad by another but then drives handsomely at the last.

The ball is misfielded in the covers and England pinch a single.

  8. Eng 301-6published at 63 overs

Gus Atkinson is the new batter for England.

He gets a great ovation as he walks out on his home ground and then gets another big ovation for his first run - although that is more because it brings up the 300 for England.

    Woakes c Rathnayake b Dhananjaya 2 (Eng 299-6)

    Thumped straight at cover.

Chris Woakes shuffles down the pitch to Dhananjaya de Silva, gives himself room but drives uppishly and into the hands of Milan Rathnayake.

It's the third wicket of the morning session, all of them caught in the ring in front of square.

Ollie Pope is cashing in nicely, that's what you have to do as a batter.

When you get a chance to go big you take it.

It's been a fine knock under pressure for Ollie Pope.

He raises his bat to the crowd, he's enjoying himself.

  13. 150 runs

150 for Ollie Popepublished at 61.5 overs

    Eng 297-5

What a knock from the stand-in England captain in such tricky batting conditions.

Ollie Pope goes to 150 from 151 balls. He played fantastically yesterday, has had a bit of good fortune today but, having made the most of it, has now brought up his third 150-plus score in Tests.

  14. Prendergast reaches 50published at 12:27 British Summer Time 7 September

    Ireland 117-3

Orla Prendergast reaches her half-century in style. First came a shimmy down the wicket to Mady Villiers and a huge six down the ground. Then came a sweep that whistled along the grass for four.

It took Prendergast just 58 balls to reach her eighth 50-plus score for Ireland. It is easy to see why defending Women's Big Bash League champions Adelaide Strikers have secured her services for the upcoming tournament.

  15. Eng 294-5published at 61 overs

Steady enough over from Dhananjay de Silva with four coming from it.

Ollie Pope and new batter Chris Woakes exchange singles before the former pushes the last ball wide of mid-off for two.

Jamie Smith doesn't get it high enough but good catch from Mendis.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 60 overs

    Smith c Kusal b V Fernando 16 (Eng 290-5)

    Flicked straight to mid-wicket.

Full and on the pads from Vishwa Fernando and Jamie SMith tries to whip it away.

The connection is solid enough but it's in the air and straight to Kusal Mendis, who takes it smartly above his head.
