Chris Woakes' celebrates, that's what he's been looking for.

Good catch from Harry Brooks who's had a safe pair of hands all summer.

  2. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 10.5 overs

    Kusal c Brook b Woakes 14 (SL 70-2)

That's better! Chris Woakes clasps his hands together and looks to the skies. He looks relieved to have sorted his radar out.

The ball is finally put on a good length and Kusal Mendis nicks it to second slip as he pokes forward.

  3. SL 70-1published at 10.4 overs

Leg stump half-volley from Chris Woakes...

    Flicked for four.

More pies than your local butchers.

  4. England go with the flowpublished at 5 overs

    England 27-1

They may have lost an early wicket, but England are ticking along nicely. Both Hollie Armitage and Tammy Beaumont have 10, and they are taking a very positive approach.

What was that? What is WASP predicting? There is, apparently, an 83% chance of an England victory.

  5. How's stat?!published at 14:42 British Summer Time 7 September

    Andy Zaltzman
    Statistician on Test Match Special

Sri Lanka reached 50 in 8.4 overs which is the second-fastest a team has reached 50 against England at home since 2010.

  6. SL 61-1published at 10 overs

Getting back to the cricket, England are leaking runs badly here.

The field means there are gaps everywhere. Kusal Mendis has raced to 10 from 11 balls. Pathum Nissanka has 42 from 33.

  7. SL 57-1published at 9.3 overs

It was a good five minutes for Ollie Robinson. He looked decent when he had to bowl off-spin in the Ashes...

He can bowl pace, bat, field, smile, be generally charming but we've finally found something nicest man in cricket Chris Woakes cannot do.

    Stephan Shemilt
BBC Sport chief cricket writer at The Oval

For the record, Woakes' off-breaks were truly awful. There will be club third XI bowlers who would have been disgusted with the filth he just served up.

  9. SL 52-1published at 9 overs

Chris Woakes has been allowed to bowl pace again. Some sort of normality has resumed.

Here's how Olly Stone ran out Dimuth Karunaratne...

I've got my shades on. Not even joking.

  11. SL 48-1published at 8.3 overs

The sun is pretty much out at the Oval now. Can someone check if that light meter is faulty?

  12. Lamb falls earlypublished at 2.4 overs

    Lamb c & b Prendergast 4 (England 9-1)

You simply cannot keep Orla Prendergast out of a game of cricket!

Ireland needed an early breakthrough and Prendergast has got it. Emma Lamb looked a tad uncomfortable during her brief stint in the middle and, having offered a return catch to the bowler, she trudges off. Hollie Armitage is the new batter.

The (total) lack of common sense from these umpires in this match has been absolutely bewildering. They are making it a total farce.

    Chris, Godstone

Chris Woakes being forced to bowl spin is the most embarrassing decision by the umpires light has not changed at all since the start of the over

    Tom

Fit the umpires with night vision goggles and walkie talkies and crack on please...

So this is all because the light must have hit the reading it dropped to yesterday on those meters. Ollie Pope must have been told he had to bowl spin and because Chris Woakes was half-way through an over either he had to do so or they had to go off.

I don't know what to say about those last three minutes.

    It's utterly ridiculous.

  16. SL 42-1published at 7.2 overs

Oh and now they've checked the light meter again and apparently it's fine for Gus Atkinson to bowl 88mph.

Chris Woakes' half-tracker is slapped for four.

An utter joke. There are boos at the end of the over. Ben Stokes has stormed off the England balcony in disbelief.

This is a bad look for Test cricket. It's ridiculous.
