T20 cricket is about fine margins. England needed early wickets and I can see why Jos Buttler bowled his bowlers when he did.

  2. 'Be flexible'published at 17:29 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January

Man of the match Tilak Varma: "The wicket was two paced and wickets were falling so we said whatever happens let's be flexible and take the boundaries when we need them.

"We like to keep a left-hand and right-hand partnership when we can, it makes it harder for the bowlers.

"England bowl short but we have played in South Africa so we are prepared. Wood and Archer are really quick so we have been working hard in the nets."

  3. 'We are aggressive'published at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January

India captain Suryakumar Yadav: "Obviously there is a little bit of relief, they bowled really well and it's good the game went down to the wire.

"We've played with an extra batter for the last two or three series. The chat was just to play as we did in the last game. We are playing an aggressive brand of cricket but also when needs be the boys are putting their hands up and building those partnerships."

Still cannot believe Archer bowled all 4 overs, he was woeful throughout. I do wonder if we could use another spin all rounder to go alongside Livingstone and Rashid, especially given the conditions in India and Pakistan

  5. 'We pushed them close'published at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January

England captain Jos Buttler: "It was a great game, really exciting. We created a lot of chances and were really aggressive, we pushed them close.

"I'm pleased with how we went about it with the bat, we took the game on and got up to what was nearly a defendable score. I was pleased with the way we played.

"Jamie Smith playing in the style he did was fantastic. There is always stuff we can improve but we are happy with the style.

"India are always going to take wickets with spinners."

A more strenuous week than Craig David.

Archer had already been very expensive when Buttler gambled on bringing him back for his final over. 19 runs and the match lost as a result. It was a gift to India when we'd been so tight. A frustrating end.

Tilak Varma is an excellent player with a wonderful temperament. It's not just about scoring runs when the going is easy and you're scoring 200+, it's about scoring important runs that win you games.

    He's put down a marker.

Some extremely questionable captaincy cost England the game. Bringing Archer back who went for 69 was a poor decision and throwing Livingstone the ball in the key penultimate over again hugely questionable. England should have won that game but found a way not to.

    Chris, Godstone

Terrible captaincy from Buttler. Why did he bowl Archer his 3rd over let alone the 4th?!! Spin or pace off the ball and bowling at the stumps was needed. Why can we all spot it and he can’t?

A great effort with the ball by England wasn’t quite enough. They felt around 20 shy with the bat, but Carse and Wood, ably supported by the spinners got England back into the match. The Rashid drop of Washington did prove pivotal after all.

England were lacking in discipline in the field and 20 runs light but the bowlers gave themselves a chance of winning the game. Jos Buttler tried everything and if it wasn't for Tilak Varma they would have won it.

    The finisher.

India of course go 2-0 up in the series.

Well played Tilak Varma! He drives through a gap in the covers and it goes for the four that India needed.

He ends the day on 72* and India win with four balls left.

    Great game.

Now there's an appeal for lbw, for good measure. May as well at this stage...

  19. Ind 160-8published at 18.5 overs

FOUR! Ravi Bishnoi throws the bat at it and squirts it away for four! That could be the game.

    India need six.
