Loud, loud chants of “Indiaaaa, Ind-ia!” now…

  2. Ind 145-8published at 59 overs

India need 48 runs to win

    That's not the pattern!

Shoaib Bashir's final ball is fired in, clips the back of Jasprit Bumrah's pads and runs away for four leg byes.

India now need less than 50 after five runs come off the over - the first time we've had more than a single in one since the 48th.

About time we chucked this ball through the ball gauge, clearly something's wrong with it.

The fiery chatter of earlier has died down. That probably tells you something about how India are coming back into it.

Either that or England are wary of what Bumrah could do to them when they next face him.

  5. Ind 140-8published at 58 overs

India need 53 runs to win

Ravindra Jadeja goes second ball for his single this time!

Jasprit Bumrah nearly drops the final ball of Ben Stokes' over into the hands of Ollie Pope at short leg, but it's just short.

I'm calling it now, Ashes 2005 is on its way, Stokes charging in to bowl, India need 2 runs to win....

  7. Ind 139-8published at 57 overs

India need 54 runs to win

Ravindra Jadeja takes his single from the third ball of Shoaib Bashir's over, what a maverick.

Three more dots to Jasprit Bumrah's tally - they account for 39 of the 40 balls he's faced.

It's no secret that a yorker is decent delivery, if executed, in most formats of the game. In Test cricket, Jadeja averages just 11.33 against well-directed yorkers (going on to hit the stumps). Today, England have only bowled one such delivery to him.

Jasprit Bumrah wants to try to score.

If Bumrah does hit it towards the Pavillion End then it's straight into the wind and it will take a big hit for a six.

  10. Ind 138-8published at 56 overs

India need 55 runs to win

    Jasprit Bumrah gets through it.

He fails to score in this Ben Stokes maiden, but not for want of trying, attempting elaborate pull and hook shots.

The latter of those is to a bouncer that's pretty high - Bumrah complains to the square leg umpire that he had no chance of getting a bat on it.

Why do England never do anything easily in sport? Why can't I just enjoy sport? Why am I checking my phone every 2 minutes?

Good bowling from Shoaib Bashir. He is firing it in at 61mph.

Fair play to Bashir. He was called upon and he was straight on the money.

For India to win the game they have to be more proactive.

All eyes on the fourth ball... doesn't score!

A maiden as Ravindra Jadeja can't get off strike at any point in Shoaib Bashir's first over - Jasprit Bumrah will now face Ben Stokes.

Bashir is going to get both Bumrah and Jadeja…

It's far from over. England having a regroup and talking a bit of tactics. I don't mind Joe Root coming on, but it just comes down to the two balls that you bowl against Jasprit Bumrah. If this keeps going on then India are going to get closer.

I'll choose to believe that's purely for reasons of cricketing fate, my anonymous friend.

Meanwhile Shoaib Bashir has come back onto the field - he's going to have his first bowl of the innings, having sustained a finger injury in India's first showing.

I’ve just told Finny I’m getting twitchy.

“Everyone just needs to settle,” he says. “56 is a lot of runs.”

  19. Ind 138-8published at 54 overs

Back under way after drinks, Ravindra Jadeja gets his fourth-ball single off Ben Stokes into the covers.

The last five overs have been the exact same template - a Jadeja single off the fourth.

The one before that went a little differently - Jadeja controversially scored his run off the fifth ball.

Andy Zaltzman answered that one this morning on air, Hugh - it's never happened in first-class cricket, let alone Tests.
