And he was right to review!

Impact outside the line - Ravindra Jadeja survives.

  2. India reviewpublished at 47.4 overs

Could that be the end of Ravindra Jadeja?

Angling in from Chris Woakes, bowling round the wicket, and it strikes top of the knee roll.

Up goes the umpire's finger - Jadeja reviews, of course.

Jofra Archer has kept his paces up. I think he will get better and better. Sometimes there is an unfair expectation on Archer - there is so much talk about him.

Would England be tempted to bowl a spinner? Bowl Joe Root, maybe.

  4. Ind 125-8published at 47 overs

India need 68 runs to win

    Not far away.

Jofra Archer's delivery almost squeezes between Ravindra Jadeja's bat and pad, with the ball just finding the inside edge and then thudding into the batter's legs.

A single to cover from the penultimate delivery of the over - India have scored 13 runs in the 7.5 overs since lunch.

When the field comes up, Ravindra Jadeja has got to try to take Chris Woakes down. India can't win the game by doing what they're doing now.

  6. Ind 124-8published at 46 overs

India need 69 runs to win

Big full toss from Chris Woakes, almost a wide too - I think it slipped out of his hand.

Ravindra Jadeja reaches out and bats it into the off side for a single, and Woakes' follow-up delivery just beats the bat of Jasprit Bumrah.

England have had success today bowling at the stumps, but will they change tack now the tail is exposed? Since Stokes became captain, England have bowled 17% stump-hitting deliveries to batters number 9-11, the second lowest of all teams in this period.

I have also enjoyed how England have not gone as hard on Jasprit Bumrah with the verbals as they did with Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Probably sensible because Bumrah can knock your head off when he has got the ball in his hand!

  9. Ind 123-8published at 45 overs

India need 70 runs to win

No fear for Jasprit Bumrah, he's untroubled by Jofra Archer.

He doesn't score off him, admittedly, but does attempt a big swipe across the line that would have gone a fair way if he'd connected.

India's tail (9-11) have a batting average of 6.4 when playing away since the start of 2023. This is the lowest of all Test teams in this period.

  12. Ind 123-8published at 44 overs

India need 70 runs to win

Ravindra Jadeja advances to Chris Woakes' second delivery, but can only miscue a pull into the leg side.

He turns down some chances to take a single, so that's a maiden for Woakes and Jasprit Bumrah will face Jofra Archer from the start of the next over.

Jasprit Bumrah's recent form with the bat suggests if he gets off the mark, he will make at least 20.

That's based on his last seven innings. He has collected a lot of ducks in his career - 10 ducks in his last 14 Tests.

If you were wondering who the majority of the crowd are supporting, that boundary to Jasprit Bumrah has confirmed it.

  15. Ind 123-8published at 43 overs

India need 70 runs to win

    Well hello Jasprit Bumrah!

Ravindra Jadeja gets out of the way of a couple of rising deliveries then takes a single to give Jasprit Bumrah two balls to face.

He pulls the first of those over mid-wicket for four - his first runs of the series.

That wicket in the last over before lunch was so crucial.

That partnership between Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ravindra Jadeja started to get frustrating for England.

Even if these two build a partnership - you feel India have always been a step behind.

  17. Ind 118-8published at 42 overs

India need 75 runs to win

Ravindra Jadeja pushes Chris Woakes' second ball to mid-off, where Jofra Archer stops the ball with his foot, and that brings Jasprit Bumrah back on strike.

The tail-ender defends the rest of the over comfortably enough - this is now his longest innings of the series, having got five, two and eight-ball ducks in his first three outings.

  19. Ind 117-8published at 41 overs

India need 76 runs to win

Jofra Archer to resume at the Pavilion End - Ravindra Jadeja pokes his opening delivery out to deep third but declines the run.

The England seamer then fires a ball down the leg side that a diving Jamie Smith can stop going to the boundary for four byes, before Jadeja takes a single.

Two balls for Bumrah to face - he fends the first, a full toss, out to mid-on then defends the second well.

  20. Ind 112-8published at 40 overs

India need 81 runs to win

Jasprit Bumrah twice steps forward and offers sturdy forward defences, but pokes at Woakes' final delivery, with the ball passing a little way from the bat.
