India have to be careful that they leave this tour not having great peaks and then falling off.

Harmanpreet Kaur's form as captain, it doesn't help when the leader of the team is not firing herself.

  3. 'Cricket is a funny old game'published at 19:33 British Summer Time 19 July

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt: "Cricket is a funny old game. We tried to pass the time as best we could. We knew when we were ready to play we were ready to switch on - I think we did that."

On England's spinners: "I think them working it out for themselves and then coming to me with the field they wanted - it is great to see ownership being taken.

"I think on the whole we bowled a better length today and made it really difficult for their batters."

On the dropped catches: "I mean everyone is trying to catch them - we can't fault everyone's effort. Something we will review. It is not nice to see when they do go down."

On England's opening batting partnership: "When I came in trying to navigate that with Amy. They did a great job at the top so there wasn't too much pressure on me."

India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur: "I think we didn't bat well today. We could have betted batter. They didn't give us any chances to execute. We didn't show up with good batting. The toss was important with overcast conditions. It was not easy to bat first.

"Unfortunately with the bowling we didn't get early wickets. There are a lot of learnings from this game. Apart from today's match we have played really good cricket and we must remember that in our next game. We will go to Durham with a positive mindset."

"Bowling is slowly coming along well. I felt really good today. I feel like I have got a way of bowling here at Lord's. It skids on a little more here. I had one that skids on and one that spins. It's about keeping the stumps at play all time and it worked for me today."

It is important for coaches to back what they see.

Charlotte Edwards sees the talent in Amy Jones. She is so athletic, quick between wickets and offers power.

This summer she is averaging a lot and she has only got out three times.

I understand a Ali in Somerset's frustration about it not being a longer game, with daylight available, but I think extending for two hours would ignore the needs of the actual paying, attending public, who got tickets in expectation of a game finishing about now and may have public transport ticket requirements and/or need to get to other places or home. It shouldn't be about internet viewer needs.

    Sophie Ecclestone took key wickets.

She took the captain, Harmanpreet Kaur and she got Harleen Deol.

Getting those major breakthroughs is important.

Yes, England were sloppy at time, but they stopped India scoring with the bat and England cruised to victory.

It is all about this team picking up confidence before the World Cup and that will definitely help.
