That is Ollie Pope's first successful review as England captain. He'd previously had 14 reviews that weren't overturned.

What a good review that is from Ollie Pope. He looks very happy.

Plumb! Ollie Pope has his arms in the air celebrating. He's got this one bang on.

Yashasvi Jasiwal just didn't get his feet going and when the ball nips a touch from Gus Atkinson he's dead in front.

A lovely early booster for Pope and Atkinson.

Ollie Pope has not had a lot of luck with his reviews as captain. It's close.

Here's a first job for Ollie Pope. He had a terrible record with reviews last summer but has gone for one here.

If Jasiwal hasn't hit this then he's in trouble.

  7. Ind 9-0published at 3 overs

    Jaiswal 2, Rahul 7

That amount cricket has played it's part in this series finale taking place between two much-changed teams. Chris Woakes, to his credit, has played in every match. He must be creaking.

There have been 391 overs per match played so far in this series. The Ashes series two years ago was 309 overs per match and 326 against India in 2021.

So there has been a lot more cricket played in this series than those previously.

  11. Ind 3-0published at 3 overs

Gus Atkinson's only matches since his injury have been a game in club cricket and one for Surrey Seconds. Despite that, this is an encouraging start with the final ball testing Yashasvi Jaiswal's angles like a GCSE maths paper.

  12. Ind 2-0published at 2.1 overs

Gus Atkinson is going to share the new ball. We haven't seen him since the Test against Zimbabwe in May because of a hamstring injury.

His first delivery climbs nicely into the gloves of Jamie Smith.

The stand-in captaincy hasn't gone to Ollie Pope's head yet. He's put himself at short leg under the helmet.

Chris Woakes beats Yashasvi Jaiswal's edge with his final delivery. Groans from the crowd.

You get the feeling there's a bit on this game and for the future. If India draw 2-2 then it's not bad, and if England win then they go to Australia full of confidence.

  15. Ind 1-0published at 0.2 overs

    Seconded.

Chris Woakes has made a gentle start. A touch too short.

That's a strange India team. They have essentially replaced Rishabh Pant with two players: Dhruv Jurel for the keeping and Karun Nair for the batting. Given they need to take 20 wickets to level the series, lengthening the batting seems quite defensive. Washington scored a century in the last Test, and is down to bat eight. Do they really need Nair? England have four seamers, India three. England have no spinners, India two.

The toss does feel quite important today. It's grey, it's humid, it's overcast. And speaking to the ground staff, it does feel like it's going to do something.

There was a lot made of England's preference to bowl first earlier in the series. This one was a no-brainer.

That said, Surrey did score 820-9 in the most recent County Championship match here.
