Ben Stokes is irreplaceable. There's not many in the world you'd want to seal the series.

But was a good toss to win. Someone like Chris Woakes will be licking his lips with the new ball.

The word is this is the greenest pitch we have seen in the series so far. There's live grass, which usually means movement. That's before we consider the murk and drizzle.

The 22-yard strip has been a point of focus again this week, after India coach Gautam Gambhir's row with the head of Surrey's groundstaff.

Both teams with an absolutely stacked batting line up. If this is another flat deck, you imagine there's going to be a glut of runs once again.

India captain Shubman Gill, speaking to Sky Sports: "As long as we are winning the match I don't mind losing the toss. I was a bit confused yesterday.

"The wicket looks good. Post runs in the first innings and take it from there.

"Our bowlers are very much ready. It looks a good wicket for the bowlers."

  6. 'No brainer to bowl'published at 10:41 British Summer Time 31 July

Stand-in England captain Ollie Pope, speaking to Sky Sports: "We're going to have a bowl first. There's a bit more grass in it this week, overcast conditions, it's a no brainer to bowl first."

On how the squad are feeling: "They're good. We've lost a few men, their captain is down. Woakes is tracking nicely and we've got a few fresh faces, which will be nice.

"We wouldn't be content with a 2-2, we're going to go out and try and win."

    Remarkable.

A change in captain but no change in fortune.

Stand-in skipper Ollie Pope wins the toss for England and, unsurprisingly, decides to bowl.

It is a very gloomy morning in south London. There has been some rain around but the covers have just been taken off.

It feels very much a bowling morning. It's a big toss and Stokes won all four in the series.

    No pressure, Ollie...

You are probably aware England's captain Ben Stokes is out injured this week.

That poking and prodding of his shoulder on the final day in Manchester turned out to be a grade three muscle tear.

Stokes, after all of his hard work in this series, expects to be out for six or seven weeks. It's a big blow for England.

Jacob Bethell will bat in his place at number six while England have also brought in Gus Atkinson, Jamie Overton, Josh Tongue.

After 42 days, this keenly contested series has reached its final stop.

England arrive at The Oval needing to avoid defeat to win the series. India must win to share it.

There has been more drama in the build-up. It should be great.
