  2. 19 years ago this week, I attended my first international game at this ground, a T20 against Sri Lanka.

    It was a stinking hot day, and prior to the match they staged a Masters game then screened the England v Trinidad & Tobago game from the football World Cup.

    By the time the international got started a fair number of the crowd were... somewhat merry, shall we say?

    England may not have quite set records today, but I reckon there was a record for the number of streakers in one cricket game that night.

    But there have been so many small passages of play where they have done the right things. They just haven't been able to put it together as a unit and do it for longer periods.

    Powell, who is also going without a helmet for the spinner, goes through long-off now, firing a drive past the flailing hands of Adil Rashid - he'd had needed lightning reactions to get anywhere near that.

    He follows that up by dropping onto the back foot to fire the ball through backward point, then retains the strike with a single as the sides go into drinks.

    It seems to me that Hetmyer shows a degree of arrogance by refusing to wear a helmet thinking that he's never going to be hit! Helmets should be compulsory for all batters in every class of cricket.

    The spinner has done well thus far, with figures of 1-12 from his first two overs.

    Nothing from the umpire, the batters scramble two leg byes and England choose not to appeal - rightly so, ball tracking has the delivery clearing the stumps.

    It's a nice cameo from Shimron Hetmyer but he was always under pressure.
