  1. SL 146-7published at 41 overs

    Missed stumping!

De Silva dances down the track again and Bashir fires in a fuller delivery, the ball squeezing under the bat, running up the wrist of Jamie Smith and dropping short of the stumps as the Sri Lankan batter jammed his bat down.

If that had been taken cleanly it would have been gone.

That was a tremendous strike with great use of the feet.

  3. SL 146-7published at 40.5 overs

Has De Silva chosen to taken Shoaib Bashir on?

He clouts the England spinner for consecutive fours, sweeping him hard to mid-wicket and then skipping down the pitch to lift one over mid-off.

Mark Wood has bowled pretty much on leg stump and has been tucking them up for room. He's come over the wicket and is peppering the leg stump, it's looking a little bit more uncomfortable for them.

  5. SL 136-7published at 40 overs

A repeat of the previous over, as De Silva takes a single from the opening delivery of Mark Wood's over and sees Rathnayake face out the remaining five balls.

This is a good pitch. The Sri Lankan captain is almost telling his team there's runs out there. De Silva has kept his control.

  7. SL 135-7published at 39 overs

Back under way, with Bashir continuing.

De Silva takes a single to long-on from the first delivery, before Rathnayake sees out the rest of the over without scoring.

The pitch is not very quick other than for Mark Wood of course. It's the uneven bounce rather than the sideways movement that's causing issues.

Rathnayake has moved his feet well and got to the ball when its been full. He seems well organised to me.

  10. SL 134-7published at 38 overs

Debutant Rathnayake gets the dubious honour of facing all six balls of Wood's first over.

The Sri Lankan number nine handles himself well though, lashing through point for a first four and picking up a further two through the covers.

Halfway through the session, the players will take drinks.

  11. SL 128-7published at 37 overs

De Silva presses on, cutting Bashir firmly to the boundary.

Time for Mark Wood, he's coming on to cheers from the Old Trafford crowd.

De Silva has been great. The way he's accumulated his runs and rotated the strike. He's not had many boundaries in his innings. Five fours with wickets tumbling at the other end, he's kept his cool.

  13. 50 runs

Fifty for De Silvapublished at 36.2 overs

There's the 50 for Dhananjaya de Silva!

He reaches the landmark by pushing Bashir into the covers for a single. A fine effort from the Sri Lanka captain, bringing some respectability to this Sri Lankan innings.

    It comes off 56 balls.

Jayasuriya was good and he looked solid until Atkinson changed his line of attack, all in readiness for the short-pitched stuff.

  15. SL 122-7published at 36 overs

De Silva lashes the first ball of Atkinson's over through mid-wicket for four, moving to 47 in the process.

Rathnayake picks up his first runs in Test cricket, pushing into the covers.

De Silva is playing a good lone hand here - he knew that one was going to be short and he placed it through mid-wicket.

  18. SL 114-7published at 35 overs

Shoaib Bashir returns in place of Chris Woakes, England's first change after the interval.

De Silva nudges him into mid-wicket for a single, moving to 43. New batter Milan Rathnayake inside edges his second delivery past the stumps, the new debutant just about surviving on this occasion.

  19. wicket

    Jayasuriya c Smith b Atkinson 10 (SL 113-7)

    No saving Jayasuriya this time!

Atkinson tries the full ball and the Sri Lanka batter edges behind with his weight on the back foot.

His trudge to the pavilion won't be interrupted.

The batter is jumping off the ground and makes contact in line with his eye and it's over the shoulder, making it a no-ball.
