Jayasuriya has to go... oh wait, no he doesn't.

All sorts going on here - Gus Atkinson thinks he has a second wicket, as his bouncer catches Prabath Jayasuriya on the gloves and the ball spoons to gully.

But wait... the Sri Lanka batter is being called back, it was the third shoulder-high delivery of the over and has been called for a no-ball.

Jayasuriya was halfway off the ground.

De Silva looks in control scoring at almost a run a ball. He's been finding space beautifully and he needs someone to hang on.

  4. SL 111-6published at 33 overs

    Close!

Jayasuriya flicks the ball off his pads and it falls just short of Shoaib Bashir at mid-wicket.

Chris Woakes almost had a fourth wicket.

Jim: Jayasuriya and de Silva at the crease now for Sri Lanka. That brings back some memories.

  6. SL 107-6published at 32 overs

Gus Atkinson continues, the strong wind rippling his whites a little.

Just a single from the over, with De Silva knocking the ball into the leg side.

Whilst no surprise to Foakes/Woakes/Stokes for the puppy triplets, I'm shocked no one has suggested Lillee, Willey and Dilley.

    Lloyd, Cambridgeshire

  8. SL 105-6published at 31 overs

Hundred up for Sri Lanka as De Silva stylishly drives Woakes through the covers for four.

A couple more singles move him to 40 from 43, an impressive innings with everything falling apart around him.

  9. SL 98-6published at 30 overs

    Well hello there, Prabath Jayasuriya!

The new batter gets under a wide bouncer from Atkinson, delicately lifting the ball over the cordon and away to the ropes.

That's gone off the pitch and it's a scramble seam delivery. It was just a little prod with a change of angle.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 29 overs

    Kamindu Mendis c Smith b Woakes 12 (SL 92-6)

Round the wicket, takes a wicket!

Kamindu Mendis immediately falls for the change of angle from Woakes, edging behind for an easy grab for Jamie Smith.

He'd just crashed the veteran all-rounder through the covers for four, but now he has to go.

He'd been averaging 107 from his first three Tests, but I fear that total will now slip below the hundred mark...

That's good cricket all round with an inducking yorker from Atkinson. They had to dart around it, just a high quality little piece of cricket there.

  13. SL 88-5published at 28 overs

Mendis picks up three, cutting Atkinson hard. The ball seems to slow a little as it approaches the rope, denying him a first boundary.

Atkinson responds by firing down a brutal yorker down at De Silva - the Sri Lanka batter jams his bat down, the motion causing his feet to skip out behind him.

Sorry Vic, it's Chris Woakes, changing ends after the interval.

He sends down a maiden to Mendis, his third from eight overs in this match.

If I was Pope, I'd keep Bashir on at the other end, especially if the ball keeps staying low.

  18. SL 84-5published at 26 overs

A couple of twos for Dhananjaya de Silva to get his session underway.

He flicks Atkinson off his legs then pushes a shot into the covers.

He moves to 32, batting partner Kamindu Mendis is on five.

Right, teams back out under the overcast Manchester skies.

The bleach blonde Gus Atkinson has the ball in hand.
