Mooney stumped after fast start for Australia

Mooney is stumped off a wide!

Was that a deliberate tactic? It may well have been.

In her first over, Sophie Ecclestone fires her fourth ball well down the leg side, Amy Jones collects well and takes the bails, with Mooney far out of her ground.

The average of 100 takes a bit of a hit.

Sophia Dunkley just dived over the ball and it probably should have been stopped. It was exquisite timing from Phoebe Litchfield - that's what she's known for.

It was a good over from Nat Sciver-Brunt until that ball but still an excellent start for Australia.

    • 32 off 21 vs England, Canberra 2020

Nat Sciver-Brunt's first over the day, taking over from Lauren Bell.

Litchfield reaches for a wide delivery and perfectly bisects backward point and Bouchier running round at deep cover - four more.

  5. Aus 54-1published at 6 overs

Final over of the powerplay, and a relatively quiet one until new batter Phoebe Litchfield reverse-sweeps Charlie Dean's penultimate ball to the boundary.

54 runs in the first six overs for Australia, 45 of them Mooney's.

Georgia Voll was a little slow getting out of her mark but there was never three runs there.

England needed this breakthrough and this is a possible momentum shift.

Voll run out 5 (Aus 47-1)

    Out running a risky third!

Beth Mooney times the final ball of the over out to the point boundary, where Maia Bouchier scrambles to recover the ball on the ropes.

Georgia Voll seems to have anticipated running an easy two and wasn't expecting to be called for the third run.

Bouchier gets to her feet and her throw beats the opener back to the stumps, with Amy Jones whipping off the bails.

Voll gets in on the action!

The 21-year-old, playing in just her second T20 international, swats Lauren Bell's second delivery through mid-wicket for four.

It was a decent delivery from Bell, who's changed ends, but Voll just dismissed it.

Jack Rule: England win the toss and choose to bowl first. No changes to the team that lost on Monday. Remind me what’s the definition of insanity again?

Beth Mooney is playing the aggressor here. It's not a role we usually see from her, but perhaps she is taking on the responsibility in Alyssa Healy's absence.

It has been effortless from her so far - the aerial route she is taking is working beautifully for her.

  11. Aus 36-0published at 4 overs

Mooney continues to farm the strike, taking all six balls as Charlie Dean comes into England's attack.

She adds a further two boundaries, advancing out of her crease to send balls over mid-off and the covers.

Freya Kemp could be slightly quicker, she doesn't use her front arm enough.

There's the potential for five or 10 more kms/h in her action which would make her really difficult to negotiate for left-arm batters.

  13. Aus 28-0published at 3 overs

    Beth Mooney is motoring already.

Her four count is up to five already - two from Kemp's over as the opener lifts one over mid-off then turns another through square.

She moves to 24, Voll is still on zero from two balls at the other end.

    Opportunities, opportunities...

Mooney tries a drop and run and Danni Wyatt-Hodge hares in from backward point. Her under-arm throw very nearly hits the stumps - Georgia Voll would have been out by a fair distance.

Voll then drives back at Bell but sees her shot break through the hands of the England seamer.

Lauren Bell is searching for that yorker and just missing the length.

Once the ball gets past the inner circle, you know it's going to be four with the speed of this outfield.

  16. Aus 17-0published at 1.4 overs

Lauren Bell has the new ball in hand at the other end for England.

Beth Mooney flicks her first ball off her pads and down the leg side, with the ball running away for four on a swift outfield.

Two further boundaries follow as Mooney clouts a chest-high full toss through mid-wicket then lifts one in the slot through long-on.

  17. Aus 4-0published at 1 over

Mooney gets off the mark from Kemp's third delivery, squeezing the ball past short cover for a single.

A leg bye and a wide follow, but Kemp then shapes a ball nicely past Mooney's bat as the Australia opener tries to flick into the leg side.

There's not many teams who can lose their captain and their best player [Ash Gardner] and still win. It just shows how unbelievable this side is.

How many England players would make it into the Australia team?

England's team have broken out of a huddle and are out on the field to greet Australia openers Beth Mooney and Georgia Voll.

Mooney only averages 100 on this ground.

    No biggie.
