Summary

  1. Eng 131-8published at 55 overs

Aus need two wickets to win

That's a rarity: a slightly disappointing over from Alana King.

Perhaps she saw the worst ball of the last over get a wicket and thought it was worth a change of tactic.

Sophie Ecclestone is able to pull a drag down away for four behind square and then adds a pair of twos, the first punched down the ground and the next cut through point.

Bat on ball feels like an achievement at the moment.

  3. Eng 123-8published at 54 overs

Aus need two wickets to win

Finally, England end the run of scoreless deliveries as Sophie Ecclestone pushes a single off Ash Gardner.

The off-spinner changed the angle in that over, going round the wicket before returning to over for the last ball to Lauren Filer.

Rick Harris: On the positive side for England’s women cricketers, they will have done their packing last night, and could be on the beach somewhere by tomorrow, for some well deserved rest after a highly successful 16-0 defeat in the series.

Jordan Richards: Feel for Australia. The World T20 was a blip, they are miles ahead of everybody. The women’s game needs competitiveness between the teams. Australia need to be, and I’m sure want to be, tested.

Bud in Newcastle: Did I just hear the sound of Jon Lewis falling on his sword?

Can you believe it. Darcie Brown, brilliant.

    MacDonald-Gay c Brown b King 1 (Eng 122-8)

Goodness me, the worst ball Alana King has bowled all series and it brings her a wicket!

It's not the ripper to start the over that pitches on leg and fizzes across the right-hander but the big, loopy, horrible full toss that does the trick this time.

Ryana MacDonald-Gay's eyes light up when she sees but then wallops it straight to the only fielder in the deep.

Comfortably taken by Darcie Brown at deep mid-wicket. A straightforward catch.

King's full toss is enough for MacDonald-Gay

I'm going to see England's women play a T20 against West Indies at Chelmsford in May. How many of this Ashes squad will still be in the team, do you think?

24 dot balls in a row now. The pressure is being built by the Aussies again.

  9. Eng 122-7published at 52 overs

Aus need three wickets to win

    England are going nowhere.

Facing world-class spin from both ends on a pitch that is turning and bouncing, scoring runs looks incredibly difficult.

    Four maidens in a row.

Two maidens in a row for the Aussies. England aren't really looking for scores.

There's a few glum faces in that England dugout.

Oh my word, this is too good from Alana King.

She drags Ryana MacDonald-Gay forward with a full ball that dips late and rips away past the bat.

The next ball is a touch flatter but this one pitches on middle and jumps up as it turns past the edge. Taken at shoulder height by Beth Mooney.

Best of luck getting anything on that. As I say, too good.

    So close for Ash Gardner!

She rips one from back of a length that whistles between Sophie Ecclestone's bat and pad - but just over the top of middle.

    Another maiden.

    It's a masterclass in leg-spin bowling.

Big, big turn for Alana King now - and plenty of bounce.

Ryana MacDonald-Gay is beaten twice as she goes back to cut and then has to withdraw her bat at the last moment to avoid nicking the last ball of the over.

Fantastic stuff from King. She is loving every minute of it out there.

  16. Eng 122-7published at 48 overs

Aus need three wickets to win

It's not just the leg-spinner getting sharp turn, Ash Gardner is getting plenty of purchase off this pitch with her offies.

Ryana MacDonald-Gay is able to drive for a single late in the over and the youngster's reward is facing up to Alana King at the start of the next.

Alana King has been perfect 90% of deliveries this Ashes.

  18. Eng 121-7published at 47 overs

Aus need three wickets to win

It doesn't take long for Alana King to get back in the groove.

After that boundary, she beats Sophie Ecclestone two balls running with absolute rippers that just beat the outside edge.

  19. Eng 121-7published at 46.2 overs

Aus need three wickets to win

Low full toss from Alana King and Sophie Ecclestone eases it through mid-off for four.

    Nice shot.

    Thanks, Tim.

Here we go then, we're just three wickets away from Australia 16, England 0.

Alana King has the ball in hand so they could come pretty quickly.
