Arjun Singh: Welcome to the New England white ball setup. Same as the old setup: Jos Buttler or bust.

Spinner Varun Chakaravarthy, who plays for KKR on this ground in the IPL, is on for an early bowl.

Brook has missed this by a good few inches.

    Not out.

It can't have hit anything but bat.

    Brook doesn't look worried.

  7. India reviewpublished at 5 overs

Harry Brook has a wild swing and appears to miss the ball entirely.

India think they've heard something, however.

With the wicket of Ben Duckett, Arshdeep Singh passes Yuzvendra Chahal to become India's outright leading wicket-taker in T20Is with 97 wickets.

Arshdeep only made his debut for India back in July 2022 and has taken just 2 years and 199 days to go to the top of the chart.

  9. Eng 35-2published at 4 overs

    Buttler 29, Brook 0

The one thing about this India line-up is there's not a lot of seam bowling depth. Hardik is an all-rounder not a frontline quick.

He drifts onto the pads and Buttler flicks him fine for the fourth four in the over.

    18 runs from that one.

  10. Eng 30-2published at 3.4 overs

    Oh Jos.

This has been smashed with distain on the pull.

    Don't bowl there, Hardik.

Ben Duckett is a terrific cricketer and the left-right-hand combination at the top is crucial. My gut feeling is Duckett may settle into the middle order and Harry Brook might go to the top, somewhere down the line. Joy for India, though, as they have done exactly what they hoped to do at the toss and trouble for England here.

  12. Eng 26-2published at 3.2 overs

Jos Buttler is batting well amid the drama.

He flicks Hardik Pandya off his pads for four with ease.

We know England bat deep but they're in danger of being undone by Arshdeep.

  14. Eng 17-2published at 3 overs

Harry Brook's first delivery zips past the edge.

Brendon McCullum looks as he always does on the sidelines. Unfussed.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2.5 overs

    Duckett c Rinku b Arshdeep 4 (Eng 17-2)

This one is out, however. Ben Duckett tries to whack Arshdeep over the off side and doesn't get all of it.

He'll have thought he may have got away with it but Rinku Singh takes a very good catch running back from extra cover.

  16. Eng 17-1published at 2.4 overs

    Outrageous.

Ben Duckett shapes to scoop Arshdeep over fine leg but then has to change the shot to ramp it over the slips.

    He gets four.

  17. Eng 13-1published at 2.3 overs

Arshdeep Singh is getting this new ball to talk.

Ben Duckett has got himself onto strike but will be wishing he hadn't right now.

Same old Phil Salt, all or nothing.

    Pete in Keighley

  19. Eng 12-1published at 2 overs

    Buttler 11, Duckett 0

Two dots and then another boundary as Jos Buttler skews one off the outside edge to wide third man.

Still Ben Duckett waits to face a delivery.

Arshdeep Singh now has seven wickets in the first over in T20Is. He still has someway to go to catch Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who leads the way for India with 18 wickets in over one.
