Another sloppy take by Dinesh Chandimal leaks a bye and brings up England's 50 after just 10 overs.

Ollie Pope averages 80.64 in first-class cricket at the Oval. Since 2000, that's the highest average for any player, at any venue (min 2000 runs).

Here's Ollie Pope - England's second-highest run-scorer in their first series of the summer, who is apparently under pressure.

    Dan Lawrence never looked comfortable.

Maybe in his head he though he wanted to be more aggressive, maybe he though he should try and do something with it and got caught in two minds.

    Ah. That's ugly.

Dan Lawrence has seen Ben Duckett thwack it around but has never looked comfortable himself.

He tries to pull Lahiru Kumara, gets a top edge and is walking off before the catch is even taken.

He was bubbling up for that, the ball before you saw him shimmy after he didn't get the full length.

He held is shape and his power came in, this could be ominous signs for Sri Lanka even if he gets motoring for the next couple of overs.

  7. Eng 45-0published at 9 overs

    Duckett 36, Lawrence 5

Seamer Milan Rathnayake is on for a bowl now with Sri Lanka's skipper perhaps a little frustrated after winning the toss in such conditions.

Ben Duckett's response? To charge power the pitch and thwack Rathnayake T20-style over extra cover.

And again a ball later! This would have been viewed as extraordinary in these conditions a few years ago. Bazballers gonna Bazball.

It's not been a perfect morning of cricket, I feel Sri Lanka have wasted the ball, especially with these conditions.

It hasn't kicked in the way you thought, it's felt a little bit lacklustre from the Sri Lankan bowlers really.

I wonder if there are any club cricket teams with similar stories to San Marino. 20 years without a win but finally getting a victory etc.

Hey Ben, San Marino won last night….

  11. Eng 29-0published at 7 overs

Wicketkeeper Dinesh Chandimal continues to struggle to take the ball cleanly. That is suggesting the ball is hooping around but it's not really doing so.

Lawrence takes the ball off his hip for a single.

Ben Duckett has left no balls so far today.

It feels like perfect conditions for seam and swing bowling but that stat from Ben suggests otherwise.

it doesn't tend to matter when you bowl down the leg side, mind - as Vishwa did earlier to Duckett.

Sri Lanka might be a touch worried. If we look at all 20 Test innings we've seen this English summer, today ranks 13th for swing after five overs, and 17th for seam movement. It's not doing much yet.

  15. Eng 27-0published at 6 overs

    Duckett 21, Lawrence 2

Let's not mention Oasis tickets. It nearly caused the break-up of my brother's relationship last week.

Lahiru Kumara becomes the latest bowler to give Ben Duckett a long-hop. Duckett slaps for four again and Dan Lawrence gets off the mark a couple of balls later too.

Sri Lanka haven't been great in this gloom so far.

Good news Ben, you're now only number 150,000 in the queue for Oasis tickets.

Zaltz could get his wish. Lahiru Kumara's first ball is down the leg side and wicketkeeper Dinesh Chandimal cannot take it cleanly.

He was hit on the thumb earlier in the series by Mark Wood, remember. That thumb looks to be the problem again.

If Kusal had been the wicket keeper this morning, it would have been the second time a touring team have used three different keepers in a Test since India in 1939.

An early change. Lahiru Kumara replaces Vishwa Fernando after just two overs.
