Bradley Wiggins doubles up at road world championships

Wiggins returned to full fitness after breaking his collarbone in the Tour de France

Bradley Wiggins will take on the time trial and road race at next week's Road Cycling World Championships.

Wiggins, David Millar and Geraint Thomas are among an eight-man team supporting Mark Cavendish in the 165-mile road race (266km) in Copenhagen.

He will also compete alongside Millar in Wednesday's elite men's time trial.

Defending time trial world champion Emma Pooley will also take part in the road race, alongside Olympic champion Nicole Cooke.

Tour of Spain runner-up Chris Froome has also been named on the men's team, along with Jeremy Hunt, Steve Cummings and Ian Stannard.

Team Sky sports director Sean Yates called Thomas "the world's best lead-out man", while the power of Millar and Wiggins's could prove important at the end.

Luxembourg's Tour de France runner-up Andy Schleck will miss out because of a tooth problem.

"I'm not going to the worlds because of my tooth problem. Healing slower than expected," Schleck wrote on his Twitter feed.

Schleck has been suffering from an infection on a wisdom tooth that eventually required surgery, but older brother Frank will lead the team.
