Mountain bikes: Britain's Rachel Atherton wins downhill Worlds

Great Britain's Rachel Atherton has won the elite women's downhill title at the mountain bike World Championships in South Africa.

Atherton, 25, who reclaimed the title she won in 2008, tweeted:, external "Hasn't sunk in that I'm finally world champion again. All I can say is THANK YOU to everyone in the whole world."

Fellow GB medal hopeful Manon Carpenter of Wales finished last after crashing.

In the men's final, Atherton's brother Gee finished seventh.

The World Cup leader was expected to manage a podium finish but had a disappointing run.

South Africa's Greg Minnaar retained his men's title with Matt Simmonds the best-placed British rider in fifth.
