Charline Joiner recovers from bike crash in Spain

Scottish Cycling say Commonwealth Games medallist Charline Joiner is "stable" and "making progress" as she recovers in a Spanish hospital after a crash.

Joiner, from Dunfermline, and Scotland team-mate Kerry MacPhee came off their bicycles on Saturday when wheels touched in a group training ride.

Joiner, 25, fractured three bones in her spine while MacPhee suffered what she described as "mild concussion".

The Fifer aims to represent Scotland at this summer's Games in Glasgow.

She took up cycling when she was 19 and won silver in the team sprint with Jenny Davies in the velodrome at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010.

She has since switched to endurance racing and now competes in road and track events.

On Tuesday she posted a message on Twitter, external: "Was just made 2 sit then stand with no painkillers... Hence I fainted with pain, never felt such pain. Give me strength, now on morphine."

MacPhee tweeted:, external "Just concussion and bruising etc. Just road racing at speed. Will be back on it tomorrow."
