Track Cycling Worlds 2014: Becky James & Laura Trott win medals

Britain's track cycling team ended their 2014 World Championships campaign with five medals after Laura Trott and Becky James won medals on the last day.

Olympic champion Trott, 21, won silver in the six-race omnium for a second successive year, while defending champion James was third in the keirin.

However, Owain Doull and Jon Dibben finished last in the madison as the men failed to win a medal in Colombia.

Britain topped the medal table with nine at last year's event in Minsk.

The two medals on the final day followed a women's team pursuit gold for Trott, Joanna Rowsell, Katie Archibald and Elinor Barker, an individual pursuit gold for Rowsell and bronze for Jess Varnish and James in the women's team sprint.

The best male results were four fifth places, achieved by Jason Kenny in the sprint and keirin, Phil Hindes, Kenny and Kian Emadi in the team sprint and Ed Clancy in the omnium.

The haul was two short of head coach Shane Sutton's target of six medals from the 10 Olympic disciplines.

However, Trott was content with her performance in Cali two years out from the Rio Olympics in 2016 after again finishing second behind America's Sarah Hammer.

Trott, who beat Hammer to the 2012 Olympic title in London, said: "I am actually happy with how this has turned out.

"I always think - although I do always want to win every single race that I enter - this time before London where was I?

"I'm really pleased with how I got on and how I am improving in each event."

James, who won two titles and four medals overall in Minsk last year, said winning just two bronze medals this year would spur her on.

"It was incredible to win all those medals last year but it's kind of nice to have this setback as I have so much to work towards now," said James, who is aiming to ride for Wales at the Commonwealth Games, which begin in July in Glasgow.
