Britain's Peter Kennaugh wins Tour of Austria in Vienna

Peter Kennaugh will compete for the Isle of Man at the Commonwealth Games

Britain's Peter Kennaugh won the Tour of Austria after a flat final stage into Vienna won by home favourite Marco Haller.

The 25-year-old Team Sky rider, from the Isle of Man, was in control all week after claiming the opening stage.

Victory continued Kennaugh's excellent season where he has also won the Settimana Coppi e Bartali and became British national road race champion.

He said: "I'm really happy to finish off the race and take the win."

Kennaugh entered the 122.8km leg from Podersdorf to Vienna with a one minute three second lead over Spanish Movistar rider Javier Moreno.

He avoided any mishaps to secure the second stage-race win of his career.

Katusha's Haller successfully sprinted to victory in the final stage but due to the rainy conditions, organisers opted to take general classification times with one lap to go.

"Heading into this year I really wanted to win a pro bike race as I was going into my fifth year as a pro without a victory," added Kennaugh.

"It was really good to do that at Coppi Bartali and then the nationals.

"I think I got a bit more confidence from those results and I had some good form after the Tour de Suisse. It was just nice to use it here and I'm happy I could finish it off."

Kennaugh will represent the Isle of Man in both road and track events at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later this month.
