Elinor Barker defied illness to help Great Britain's women take bronze in the team pursuit on the opening day of the Track World Cup in Cali, Colombia.

Barker took to the line with team-mates Joanna Rowsell Shand, Katie Archibald and Ciara Horne in order to fulfil competition rules, then stepped off the track when the race started.

Great Britain beat China by less than two-tenths of a second to seal third.

"I think Elinor was a real hero to get up on the line," Rowsell said.

"She has been feeling a bit unwell, but the regulations say that, although you can finish with three, you can't start with three."

In the men's team pursuit, Sir Bradley Wiggins, Andy Tennant, Steven Burke and Owain Doull finished fifth, with Russia claiming the gold medal.
