Scott Mitchell says winning his first BDO World Championship at Lakeside is a "life-changing" experience.

The 44-year-old landscape gardener defeated three-time champion Martin 'Wolfie' Adams 7-6 in a thrilling final on Sunday to win the title and secure a £100,000 first prize.

"I didn't know that many noughts went behind a one in any bank account anywhere," Mitchell told BBC Sport.

"It really is life-changing, the whole situation," the Bransgore player added.

A slice of Mitchell's sizeable winnings are set to go towards a new tractor for his family's farm in the New Forest.

He continued: "Everybody thinks I've got a lot of money now, so all of a sudden the tractor prices have probably gone up in my area."

Mitchell was the number four seed at Lakeside but he had never progressed beyond the last 16 in five previous visits.

His final against 58-year-old Adams - who won the title in 2007, 2010, external and 2011, external - was a tense affair, with neither player able to establish a two-set advantage at any stage.

A brilliant 158 checkout at the start of the deciding set put Mitchell in command and he broke down in tears after landing double top for the match.

He added: "I said in my interview on Saturday that I didn't mind whether I played Glen Durrant or 'Wolfie' in the final, but I really wanted to play 'Wolfie'.

"He's our main man in the BDO and he's won everything. To share the stage with such a legend, who has done so much for our side of the sport, was awesome."
