You have to stand up and pay attention to the performances of Jermaine Wattimena. He's been reliable. He's slowed things down at the backend of games and that is working in his favour.

    Wattimena v Wright

OK, this is no time to reflect on the madness we've just seen. It's time for the second match of the night.

Jermaine Wattimena is up against Peter Wright.

It's got a lot to live up to. Good luck chaps...

  3. 'I actually thought I was going to lose'published at 20:58 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December

    Price 4-3 Cullen

Gerwyn Price talking to Sky Sports: "That was tough. I just wanted to get over the wining line, every single set he kept coming back into it. The crowd were behind him. I actually thought I was going to lose it but I stayed in it and got over the line.

"He played some good darts at the right times. I don't know honestly, I was missing doubles and I'm just looking round thinking 'wow, how am I in this position?'. I put myself in them positions but I got myself out of it and thankfully got the win.

"I kept breaking in the final set and couldn't hold on my throw. I probably wanted it too much and was trying too hard.

"I've got a lot more in the tank. I can play a lot better than I have tonight. I didn't play brilliantly but I did enough to win in the end.

"Alexandra Palace is not the best of places for me but to get a win any day of the week means a lot to me."

    Price 4-3 Cullen

Gerywn Price wins 4-3 after hitting 13 180s and averaging 92.6, hitting only 18 of 58 (fifty-eight?!) darts at double.

That barely scratches the surface, though.

I'm shattered and we're only one match into this evening session!

    Gerywn Price wins a classic!

The Ice Man was 3-0 up, Joe Cullen hauled his way back into the match, got it to 3-3 and even had darts for the match.

Seven breaks of throw on the bounce to end the match with Price hitting tops to win it.

    Remarkable stuff.

  7. Cullen reels in the big fish to level!published at 20:47 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December

    Price 3-3 Cullen (5-5)

    OH MY WORD!

The match was over, it was done... but Gerwyn Price misses double 10, then double five to win it.

Joe Cullen had given himself a glimmer by leaving 170.

Treble 20... treble 20... bullseye! Incredible!

One leg to decide this ludicrous, ludicrous match.

  9. Price will throw for the match again!published at 20:46 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December

    Price 3-3 Cullen (5-4)

Holding throw is proving harder than breaking at the moment!

Joe Cullen was in control of the leg but Gerwyn Price put the pressure on with a pair of treble 19s.

Cullen proceeded to miss two darts at double and Price, needing tops, gets it at the second attempt.

    Mark Webster
Former BDO world champion on Sky Sports

    We've effectively got a three-leg game now.

I would say advantage Joe Cullen because he's got the darts but three of the past four legs have seen breaks of throw.

This match just doesn't want to end.

Joe Cullen hits a timely 180 and leaves himself 100 after nine darts.

The break is on and he hits double eight to clinch it. A 13-darter against the throw and what a time to do it.

The winner of this match will want to go for a very long lie down in a dark room.

  13. Price breaks againpublished at 20:43 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December

    Price 3-3 Cullen (4-3)

Tops has tortured Gerwyn Price all night but he is stubbornly persevering and is rewarded.

When Joe Cullen misses double five for an 87 checkout, Price sets himself up for double 20 and hits it first time.

He'll throw for the match again...

Joe Cullen has kept fighting in this match.

This match has had no sort of pattern. Even when Gerwyn Price was 3-0 up, Joe Cullen had missed opportunities.

  15. Cullen levels againpublished at 20:40 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December

    Price 3-3 Cullen (3-3)

Gerwyn Price misses a dart for the match now!

The Welshman needed tops for a 116 out, misses and Joe Cullen needs just two darts to take out 82.

What a match. The finishing has been well off but the drama has been off the scale.

If you want to know how difficult it is to finish a match, watch this. Even some of the best in the world struggle.

This will be an absolute sickener for Joe Cullen if he loses this. He was down on the canvas and fought back to have match dart.

What is happening on these doubles?

It doesn't matter if it's Gerywn Price or Joe Cullen, hitting a double is looking harder than ever.

Both miss numerous again but it's Price who hits first, double two to break.

A hold of throw will send him through to the fourth round...

Joe Cullen has a look at 130 for the match - hits the two treble 20s but misses double five!

Gerwyn Price escapes and, having already missed tops, does get double 10 to level the set.

A reminder that in this deciding set, you need to win by two clear legs unless we get to 5-5, then we'll have a one-leg shootout.

  20. Cullen leads in the deciderpublished at 20:34 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December

    Price 3-3 Cullen (1-2)

Joe Cullen is a leg away from completing the comeback from 3-0 down!

It's a more conventional leg after the drama of the last few but even in this one Gerywn Price ramps up the pressure with a 140.

Cullen is unfazed though and hits double 10 to go 2-1 up in the set.
