Van Gerwen 0-0 De Graaf (1-1)

Michael van Gerwen has been plagued by inconsistency in recent times and nothing sums it up better than his first two visits in this leg.

He starts with 22 and follows up with a 180.

There's nothing inconsistent about Jeffrey de Graaf here, though. He goes 140, 180, 135 and then takes out 46 for an 11-dart break.

    We're back on throw.

Nathan Aspinall's walk-on to Mr Brightside is widely considered the best in darts at the moment but Michael van Gerwen x The White Stripes remains a classic of the genre.

It doesn't seem to matter whether the fans want the Dutchman to win, they're always more than happy to chant his name to the tune of Seven Nation Army.

Jeffrey de Graaf will be delighted so far. He's just got to go out and there express himself.

He will know there are fragilities in Michael van Gerwen's game and when he gets the chances he's got to take them.

Michael can play in spells and if he plays like he did in parts against Brendan Dolan then Jeffrey will have to try and withstand it.

Michael van Gerwen has been building nicely. There has been nothing spectacular but he's done a good job so far. It is like building blocks and he is assembling his whole game.

Jeffrey de Graaf is the perfect opponent for him. He could beat Van Gerwen but he could push him up even higher.

    Van Gerwen v De Graaf

We're not far away from the second match of the evening now as Michael van Gerwen takes on Jeffrey de Graaf.

Van Gerwen is a three-time world champion but you have to go back to 2019 for his last title.

The Dutchman will be hoping to put that right this year and the early exits of a number of seeds means his run to the final is pretty favourable.

Big night of arrows in North London. Luke Littler might be the favourite but 2 players from the North East to keep an eye on Chris Dobey and Callan Rydz. 2 dark horses for me.

  10. 'We can do this, we really can'published at 20:17 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2024

    Bunting 4-0 Woodhouse

Stephen Bunting talking to Sky Sports: "It is weird because in the practice room earlier on and all day I've felt so nervous. I don't want to let the crowd down - they are the heart and soul of the party - and they were unbelievable again. We can do this, you know, we really can.

"I'm thrilled - we always say it is the 12th man with the crowd and this place is no different. When you're up on this stage it is a very lonely place and if things aren't going right it is so tough and we need the crowd behind us 100% and listen, from the bottom of my heart, thank you very much, you really did get me through that game again. I didn't think I played my best but I am really happy to get over the line.

"I don't look at the other games - it doesn't interest me because you can prepare for games you're never going to play. It is all about the here and now and in the moment and Peter Wright now. I'll make sure I am 100% ready for that game. I expect the Peter Wright to turn up that beat Luke Humphries last night - what a win for Peter, brilliant."

Luke Woodhouse levels it up in this fourth set.

Impressive 171 from Luke Woodhouse in response to a 180 from Stephen Bunting.

It leaves him 132 for a break of throw. He can't finish that but Bunting fails to give himself a dart at double from 96.

Woodhouse misses tops but Bunting does the same. Neither man can find the double in this leg!

Eventually, though, it's Bunting who hits double 10 to hold.

A big chance goes begging for Woodhouse.
