Britain's Gallagher and Evans set for Paralympic Skiing Worlds

Paralympic ski champions Kelly Gallagher and Charlotte Evans are set to compete in March's IPC World Championships.

The pair have not raced together since last year's Sochi Games where they created history as Britain's first Winter Paralympic gold medallists.

But the sport's governing body, the British Disabled Ski Team, say they will be part of the GB team in Canada.

The full team will be named in February with the Worlds starting on 4 March.

Gallagher, 29, who is visually impaired, and her guide Evans, 23, swept to success in the Super-G in Sochi.

But the rest of their Paralympic campaign was a disappointment with Gallagher hitting a gate in the super combined and falling in both the slalom and giant slalom.

Their win saw them receive MBEs last summer while they were also nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

Although the success of Gallagher and team-mate Jade Etherington led to the sport being awarded increased funding of £2.79m from UK Sport, there have also been a number of changes.

Etherington, who won three silvers and a bronze to become Britain's most successful Winter Paralympian, retired in November citing a lack of support from the BDST, while head coach Tony McAllister and performance director Andrew Lockerbie also departed the set-up.

New performance director Duncan Freshwater started his role at the start of this month while former Olympian Ross Green will now be working with Gallagher and Evans.

Visually impaired teenager Millie Knight and her guide Jen Kehoe are also set to be part of the World Championship team having won two golds on the Europa Cup circuit in December.

Knight, 16, carried the British flag at the Sochi opening ceremony and was the youngest-ever member of a GB Winter Paralympic team.
