British Diving Championships: Tom Daley retains 10m title

Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley comfortably won his fourth 10m platform title at the British Diving Championships in Plymouth on Sunday.

The 18-year-old, who had been suffering with a chest infection, won on 501 points, more than 125 clear of James Denny, with Daniel Goodfellow in third.

"It wasn't too bad a start to the season," said the defending champion.

"There are a few tweaks I can make and hopefully it will come together later in the season."

Daley won the world title in Rome in 2009 as a 15-year-old but finished fifth when attempting to defend his title in 2011, which was taken by China's Qiu Bo.

Back in his home pool, Daley scored more than 90 points for three of his six dives but his overall total was more than 50 points fewer than his bronze-medal winning performance at London 2012 as he builds towards this summer's World Championships in Barcelona.

"To get the world title back would be the ultimate dream this season," he said. "It's about working on consistency because everyone is learning lots of harder, new dives.

"The year after the Olympics is always a bit up in the air because no-one knows who could come through and win the competition so it'll be interesting to see how it turns out."

Denny from Leeds, scored 374.90 to collect the silver medal ahead of Cambridge's Goodfellow on 340.25.

Edinburgh's Grace Reid took the women's 3m springboard title on 296.55, edging out Alicia Blagg, who finished with 296.

Rebecca Gallantree, who was chasing a fifth successful title, won the preliminary with a score of 316 but could not replicate that form in the final and had to settle for the bronze on 294.45.
