Torquay 0-0 Wycombe

  • Published

Torquay's automatic promotion bid is all but over as they were frustrated by third-placed Wycombe.

The Gulls dominated throughout and hit the woodwork twice through Guy Branston and Ronan Murray headers.

Branston had another chance for the hosts but his header at the back post produced a fine save from Nikki Bull.

Chris Zebroski forced a good save from Bull and Gulls substitute Billy Kee fired into the side-netting with an audacious effort from range.

The result leaves Wycombe in third, although fourth-placed Shrewsbury can overtake them if they win their game in hand.

Torquay now sit five points behind Wycombe with three games left.

Wycombe's failure to win handed Chesterfield promotion with four games remaining.

POST-MATCH REACTION

Torquay United manager Paul Buckle told BBC Radio Devon:

"I thought it was an excellent game of football, Wycombe are a good side and showed they're a good club at this level.

"We've slaughtered Wycombe today, but we've only got a point for our troubles.

"We had the lot today, all that was missing was a finish, but the hardest thing to do in football is put the ball in the back of the net."
