Huddersfield Town have made their first signing of the summer with the capture of Dunfermline defender Calum Woods.

The 24-year-old right-back, who helped the Pars win promotion to the Scottish Premier League, has signed a two-year deal at the Galpharm Stadium.

Manager Lee Clark told the club website: "His versatility was a big factor in us signing him.

"He has the ability to play anywhere across the back four and is comfortable on either foot."

The former Liverpool academy player moved to Dunfermline in July 2006.

But, after making a total of 159 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals, he rejected the offer of a new contract with the Pars.

"I first heard Huddersfield were interested in me a while ago," he said.

"My agent mentioned to me that there could be a possibility of them looking to sign me.

"I received quite a lot of interest from other clubs - obviously my contract at Dunfermline was up and I was a free agent.

"But, as soon as I heard that Huddersfield were interested in me I knew where I wanted to go."

Clark added: "We have watched him for a long time.

"All the scouts and coaches I have sent to go cast their eye over him have come back with positive feedback.

"He is only a young lad who I believe will fit in very well amongst the current crop of players we have here."

Woods has played at right-back, left-back and wide midfield on both flanks during his time in Fife, his final appearance coming in a 2-0 win at Morton when the Pars clinched the First Division title and promotion to the Scottish Premier League.

But Dunfermline were prepared for his departure, having signed left-back Paddy Boyle, who rejected a new contract with Partick Thistle.

Dunfermline manager Jim McIntyre said: "As soon as an English club comes in, there's no competition.

"But we wish him well since he has been an integral part of the team since I became manager.

"Most footballers' goal is to play in England and, if he continues to progress, he could become a wealthy young man."
