Uwe Rosler named as Brentford manager

Uwe Rosler has been appointed as the new manager of League One Brentford on an initial two-year contract.

The former Manchester City striker succeeds Nicky Forster, who was in temporary charge from February until the end of last season.

Rosler has not managed in England before but has been in charge of Lillestrom, Viking and Molde in Norway.

The 42-year-old, who spent four years at City, said: "I am delighted to have been appointed."

He continued: "It has long been my desire to manage and coach an English league side and having spoken to senior representatives of Brentford it became obvious they share the same drive, ambition and vision to succeed.

"I'm excited at the prospect and can't wait to meet the players in preparation for the challenge ahead."

Rosler led both Lillestrom and Viking to top four finishes in the Norweigian League and last season helped Molde avoid relegation with six wins in their last eight games.

He scored 65 goals in 167 appearances for City and also played for Southampton.

He inherits a squad who have finished ninth and 11th in successive seasons in League One after winning the League Two title in 2009.

Former first team coach Mark Warburton moves to the role of sporting director while the Bees' chief executive officer Andrew Mills is leaving the club.

Forster took over following the sacking of Andy Scott and decided to retire from playing and concentrate on management after being told he was not in the frame for the permanent job.
