Full-back Martyn Naylor signs Worcester City deal

Worcester City manager Carl Heeley has added experienced full-back Martyn Naylor to his squad in time for Saturday's trip to Altrincham.

City are unable to pay the 34-year-old former The New Saints defender, who had a trial with City in the summer.

Manager Carl Heeley told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "Martyn came and trained with us throughout pre-season.

"He knows we can't offer him anything at the moment but he is prepared to wait for his opportunity."

Naylor has Champions League experience from his time with Welsh Premier League club The New Saints and Heeley believes the Blue Square Bet North should hold few fears for him.

"TNS had one of the best draws of any semi-professional club when they took on Liverpool so it was good experience for Martyn," he said.

"But he has never mentioned it to us, although we all know he played in it but he is a really level-headed lad.

"I know him from my days up in the Black Country and we are really happy to have him on board."

Heeley acknowledges his side will have their work cut out at Altrincham this weekend as the Moss Lane side is expected to be among the promotion challengers.

"They are widely tipped to be up there challenging for at least the play-off places," he said.

"We are seven games in and they have had a reasonable start.

"They have got quite a few experienced players in their side and they are looking to bounce back up into the Premier division at the first attempt.

City are hopeful striker Marc McGregor and midfielder Simon Brown will recover from injury in time.

Luke Corbett is doubtful while winger Danny Edwards is definitely ruled out with a hamstring problem.
